I think post codes have a lot to do with price, if you want to check this run a quote with YO16 6YS which is near my home.

Car insurance quotes and days of the week?

I run my details through a comparison website and get one price - then repeat same details a few days apart and most insurers go up and down by up to £15 for the same cover.

    Is there a pattern?
Is it more expensive on Fridays and weekends?
Does it get more expensive as it gets closer to the renewal date?

I'd suggest most Insurers (so excluding Direct Insurers) rates aren't that dynamic as theyr'e set months in advance.

However, don;t forget Brokers will flex their commission based on sales volumes in the week &/or month, not forgetting by Brand (some partners administer numerous Brands, even competing) so I suspect it's this that's changing the rates; how much variance is tehre in the rate?...
  • I'm having all sorts of problems with Tescos car insurance (not helped by their extremely poor communication skills). I have at last discovered that the main problem is that my previous insurer, Saga, has only confirmed 5 years no claims discount rather than the "Full" no claims discount that I had entered on my Tesco documents. (I have about 20 years no claim!).

It transpires that Saga do not check any no claims discounts and they give full no claims after 4 years, so it is their company policy to record any new policy holders with "Full" no claims as having 4 years. Therefore, after being with them for 1 year you come away with only 5 years no claims.

Both companies claim there is nothing that can be done by them. So I am left in the position where Tesco want another £50+ just because I can't prove that I have all the no claims discount that I do really have.

If anybody knows a way around this I would be grateful for any tips. Otherwise people, be aware of this problem, which is really the fault of Saga's system.

You have 20 years driving without a claim, which is not the same as 20 years NCD!
  • True, but it was NCD until I went to Saga.

Martin is always saying use at least two comparison websites.

My insurance was due for renewal in November. I used 6 different comparison web sites, plus several brokers, and the best deal anyone came up with was £390. I went to Which? to see who they recommended for quality, and one of their top insurers is the Co-op. They had not come up on any of the comparison sites, but quoted me £310 - a fantastic saving. Don't rely solely on comparison web sites!!
  • Hi,

I wanted to know if you had any tips for someone with a DR30 driving offence trying to find the cheapest car insurance?

See a local broker or google for insurance with drink drive conviction to find specialist insurers.
