I've just been offered an amount for my car written off after some fool ran into the back of me, it's a fair offer so I'm happy with it. My insurance company are now asking me for all my docs, mot and the like...fair dos...expect that but they are also asking for my service history. I do have this and I've had it serviced regularly but only the bog standard stuff, I've had brakes replaced of course when they needed to eb but not necessarily as part of my service, just at the local brake sho so I wont have any record of this. My suspicious mind is wondering whether my own insurance company will scrutinise the service log to see if they can knock a bit off the value they have offered i.e you didn't replace your cam belt after 60,000 miles so we're knocking off x pounds. Am I being over suspicious here ?.

    Hey guys.

My girlfriend just passed her test and I call up the Insurance people to tell them she had passed.
I had her down as a provisional before this at no extra cost.
I checked to see if it would cost any more if I added her as a full driver at the time so I knew how much it cost when she passed and it appeared that it would not anything. I am myself newly qualified as of Oct' 09 and we are both 24 years old.
So I was pretty shocked when they said that would be £125 to add her!!!!!!!!!!!. Pretty sneaky in my opinion.

So I was wondering if anyone knew of any long-term Separate Insurance Policy for Additional Drivers?

So far from what I have found they don't exist and it appears I have no choice be be mugged by the insurers or start an entire new policy incurring cancelling fees.

    Thanks for your help

Hi all, hope you are well.

Just due to renew my car insurance, 27 - own a peugeot 207 with 6 years NCB. My premium last year was around £400, but the renewal this year is more around the £800 mark! Thing is I've tried a couple of price comparison sites and then gone to Tesco, AXA, Virgin, Aviva, Swiftcover direct and none of them can beat it or if they do undercut it ever so slightly.

I can't for the life of me understand why it's doubled in price when nothing has changed other than going from 5 years NCB to 6! I don't know if I can afford to pay out an extra £400 :(

one question, why after I used gocompare did the AA phone me up literally 5 minutes after i got their quote online and ask me if it was good, and will i be taking it out.
If you look at their terms and conditions just before the quotes page, there's a check box to say you don't mind being called by the top 3 insurers, and it defaults to accept these calls. It's not obvious (they don't want it to be!) and you have to search for it...

Have you changed your job or address? Sometimes job type can have an adverse affect. You might consider adding a named driver as this can cause the premium to drop quite a bit. Maybe add a parent or two!

Must admit though, it does seem like a steep hike.

we have just ahd renewal. it has increased from £369 to £547. we are in our early 50's have 21 years no claims which we have protected.
so using all the comparison web sites the lowest we can get is £450 ish. BUT not just this but they all have increased the excess to 600 on these quotes.
and NO we haven't claimed anything
and No we haven't changed address
    and YES it is garaged
and YEs we have low yearly milage as usually cycle most places thru the week

so if anybody knows what has happened this year to add the huge increase please tell.

The insurance premiums have gone up accross the board from what I've heard. Something to do with the insurance companies making a loss, largely due to whiplash claims. My mate warned me about this a few months ago, and my renewal is soon and the cheapest is nearly double what I paid last year. VERY tempted to give up my car, cost of keeping a car is becoming/become an absolute joke. But I would miss it...a lot.

Hi, just cancelled my elephant car insurance because we are going to SORN the car and they want £45 for the priviledge of cancelling the policy! This is apparantly a charge for 'admin'. Surely £45 is a bit excessive for someone to press a little button on a computer!!! even if there was slightly more admin than that its still excessive isnt it? Or am I just being daft?

I dont know the ins and outs of the reclaim bank charges business but could this be a similar thing? Insurance companies charging unreasonable amounts to cancel a policy?

It makes mad and depressed that these huge profit companies are just take take take from the hard working little man!
Under FSA regulation your insurance company has to right to charge a reasonable fee for cancelling your policy. In their case is £45 , which is quite normal charge, there are plenty out there which charge £50. You cannot reclaim that back. Basically when you buy insurance you are comitted to 12 months policy and it will state in your T&C that if you cancel before the policy expire they have the right to charge you, so sorry to say they simply can.
