Does the budget ever affect (effect? never know which one) the car insurance quotes at all?
I'm just wondering whether I should squeeze a quote in before the budget starts.0 -
If taxes are altered, or new ones introduced, then anything you buy could be affected by the budget. But getting an insurance quote pre budget won't save you paying any new taxes after the budget! (The quote won't be held for government imposed taxes)0

can anyone help?
i had third party, fire & theft insurance cover for a car for only 5 months. after i had an accident where i was in the middle (hit from behind then subsequently hit car in front) I scrapped the car because it cost more to repair than it was worth. i reported the accident and a claim was put in by the driver of the car in front. i canceled the insurance policy and settled the balance outstanding till the cancellation date.
now the insurance brokers are demanding the outstanding balance on the insurance premium is payable because of the claim made. I assumed it was the compulsory excess payable but they confirmed it is the whole premium payable. Is this right? :mad:0 -

As far as I am aware there is no case in which a person rear ends another motorist in which the rear-ended driver is legally responsible - even if both vehicles are motoring at 40 mph and the driver stops suddenly and explains "I stopped to let that driver out of a side
road".
If, at the critical moment, you glance in your mirror, it's tough luck isn't it?0 -
You are only happy because they are cheap! Read up (both on here and across the net) just what they are like service wise. There is more to it than being cheap!
Some independent reviews here:

To be fair, most of the car insurance reviews are pretty negative! Only 3 car insurance companies with at least 10 reviews are favourly rated out of 144!0 -

Which are they ? I couldn't see an over-all ranking on the site linked by Quentin.
One of the downsides of this site - MSE, is that saving money seems to be the whole and only object. Saving one's sanity in the face of obstructive and couldn't-care-less car insurers who grab your money and then totally ignore you has certainly become more important for me.
As far as car insurance goes cheapness now appears to equate with bad or totally absent customer service. We saved around £200.00 by switching from MORE TH>N to Aviva last November but I've been regretting it ever since.
Perhaps we need a sticky thread to acquaint people with the good car insurance firms...if there are any0 -
Just got a renewal quote from Sheilas' Wheels for SWMBO's car, and it's gone up, of course, from £148 to £163. I've been on the comparison sites, and they're all more expensive, apart from a few little-known insurers, so I think we'll probably go with Sheila.
The quote includes £25 "motoring legal protection", but I'm not clear if that's really worth it. Reading the small print doesn't help too much, so I'm interested to know if others have taken it out...?Jumbo

In the past when ever i've been asked by insurance companies what my car is worth i've always told them the amount that i think i could realisticly sell it for (what its worth? or so i thought)
If i was to sell my car i would be able to get around £1200-1300, which is what i would say 'it's worth', HOWEVER, recently after putting my reg number into a price comparison website it automatically came up with a value of just £700. (My car has low milege, fsh and is in v good condition so is worth more than average)
So my question is, if i tell them it's worth say £1250, take out their policy and then i write it off, what will they pay? The amount i told them or 'their' valuation.
Also, am i paying a higher premium than i should because i'm telling them it's true value instead of their lower valuation? and if so, how many other people are doing this?0
