Tenth Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker
hiya i am a little blonde :) so anyone that can simplify this for me is my hero
i took out gap insurance on a new car.
the car cost £22,339 6 weeks ago
i paid £4300 deposit and £1300 worth of part exchange and now hav a finance deal with £16739 left to pay.
hypothetically if my car dies or runs away tomorrow will i get my full money back as thats the way it was explained to me in the car shop by the car man or how much would i stand to lose? :(

    fank yooooooooooo :)
  • my 17 year old has been working his socks off to finance his drivers license and a car (a t-registered, peugeot 206, three door). all the insurance quotes we had were between £3,500 and £5,500 with some companies not being prepared to insure him at all. neither of us can afford this sort of money. he will eventually do his driver plus, but again this does not seem to matter to some quotes. has anyone got any ideas, tips, tricks, experience in getting the insurance quote down? anything would be so much appreciated!

Having a discussion with my brother today re insurance. If you have a car for sale with no insurance on it is a person allowed to drive and be covered by their own insurance? I said no and he said yes. Any comments

It depends if the driver has a "driving other cars" extension on his ins. certificate. Usually only given with comprehensive policies to drivers over 25. But not all comprehensive policies have it.

Note the cover given is only third party, and so won't cover any damage done by the driver to the car for sale.

Can anybody tell me what's happened with motor insurance premiums in the last year... the screen scrapers tell me ours has doubled on a 20yr old Merc estate... why's this & any way to get a ~ £170 quote like last year...

I've got over 10 years NCB but I've been told I can't use this on our 2 cars policies... is this right...
Anybody know about cheap classic insurance...

    Thanks

I'm trying to get best quote for my car insurance tried the little red phone company(you know who I mean), by mistake I put Mrs instead of Mr but was shocked to see my insurance go up by £60 pounds when I corrected this. Please bear in mind that both times my tyre blow out claim in 2007 and 2 speed fines from the same year where in both quotes.

I realise that in the eyes of the insurance company women are better drivers but please can we get this antiquate assumption changed. Fine if you are safe driver you get cheaper car insurance and if you are not you do not. Your sex should not come into it..

The differential might not be so great if you try another company. Also, they take age into account. But as I said, if you try running the quote via another company you may find that the differential is less; you may even find that it comes out less than if you were a Mrs. Different companies use varying criteria and this of course can affect the final price.

This is similar to what's happened to me on my Merc, so i've come on this thread to find out what's going on.

Despite no claims/points in the last year my cheapest quote has increased from £430 to £550. I'm obviously disgruntled about this, since I have never made a claim or had any crash  So every year i'm just giving them free money (usually decreasing year-on-year).

Someone at work who I talked to recently has the same problem with their car insurance going up for no reason. All I can presume is that we're all being stung because of all the floods etc that the insurance companies have had to pay out on in the last year? But it's almost like their price-fixing because surely they can't all have been severely exposed?

    ((sigh))

As an industry the insurers have been paying out £1.10-£1.20 for every £1 they've received in premium.

Do you complain about the price of other things rising when the costs of providing them have increased?
