Hi, posted a separate thread but had no response so trying here again

Looking for new a new car insurance policy has driven me mad.

Followed all the steps from the article, found the quotes on MSE cheapest and it was with Hastings.
Now I had an accident last year and my no claims bonus went to 1 year so prices are horrendous and I will be made redundant in 3 months so every penny counts!

MSE quoted 561.15 for Hastings comprehensive (that's with 25 pounds bonus from MSE) but then I wanted to go through topcashback site onto Hastings to get 58 ponds cash back rather than 25. But when I've done it (and age exactly the same info as on a comparison site) the quote was over 900!!!

So I called Hastings and their answer was - the comparison sites get it wrong all the time:mad:
I am tempted to forget 58 topcashback incentive and go through MSE but am worried my policy may be invalidated.

    Any advice please?

    Many thanks

Strange! Sorry if I sound like i'm patronising, i'm not, but did you click straight through to Hastings from Topcashback, ie not to a comparison site first and THEN to Hastings?

Can't think of anything else apart from try again and see what happens. My quotes from comparison sites are normally there or thereabouts, maybe there was a glitch, or you mistakenly entered some information in wrong?

If you don't get any joy i'd be tempted to sack the £58 and go for the £25 instead.

Thanks Linz, I checked twice, and the price difference was huge.
So yes, decided to go through MSE comparison site and hope that it'll be fine. I only fear thay'd be able to find sth to invalidate my policy :-(
  • Hi. I hope someone can help me!

I am due to take my driving test next week and have just purchased a car which I will pick up after my test.

I am therefore looking for my first car insurance (at the age of 45!) and am very confused.com!

How am I to know what my mileage will be, where I will park (depending on whether I take car to work occasionally or not), where I park at home (could be on road or off)?

Also, is it better to get breakdown cover as part of insurance or maybe separately with Tesco clubcard vouchers?

    Please help!

    hello all,

just got new(er) car... traded in mini for golf... cancelled mini insurance and after comparing loads got AXA as best bet (plus £28 cashback from quidco)...

ive just searched this site and found some people saying AXA are terrible and am now worried... should i avoid?

and... they keep offering 'legal cover' for an extra £25... what exactly is it and shouldnt most of it be covered in your standard insurance policy anyway?

A french friend is coming to live for a year or 2 in England and is bringing his car. It's a small car, not worth very much but if he sold it, he'd not get anything as good for the money. So he may well put UK plates on it. However I rang around for him and it seems there's a catch 22 - you need insurance to start registration and you can't get insurance without registration. Does anyone know if any of the cheaper big companies will insure his car? It is an old Twingo, never sold in the UK and is only worth about 4000 euros at the very most , maybe less, in France so a top whack import specialist broker like for a bugatti or something is a tad inappropriate! Many thanks for any help.
Any idea anyone what it would cost to insure a lhd 1.2 car in the UK? cheers

Go to a local broker, they will know which companies will accept cover, basically they normally issue cover on the chassis number. He can then go through the process of sorting out the registration with the DVLA.
  • Can anyone help me.............
My son is 18, he passed his driving test 1 year ago and has been using my car as a named driver on my policy. I have decised to give him my car and buy myself a new one. He completed and passed the "Pass Plus" test.
So my problem is - Does anyone know of an insurance company that wont charge me nearly £4,000.00 to insure him.
    PLEASE HELP
