I have a question about insurance. I bought a brand new 59 plate Toyota Auris 1.4 LE2 car in October last year. I got a cracking deal on it as it was part of some 'special clearance' event. The care is a limited edition, but it is pretty much exactly the same spec at the Auris 1.4 T2 and is the most basic of the Auris models (doesn't even have air con!). At the time I bought the car, I owned an 06 plate Yaris on which I had made 1 claim after hitting a wall accidentally. I have no claims protection worth 6 years. When I called my insurers (direct line) to change the details to my new car the extra cost was £33 - no problems. I was never sent new documents and when I queried this was told this was normal and the new car details were on the system. In April I was got by a lorry at traffic lights but the company who own the lorry refused to accept liability and I had no witnesses so it went as a fault claim. My insurance is due for renewal at the end of this month and my renewal quote arrived and was £580 which I felt was a lot! However it gets worse - the registration number on the renewal form they sent me was wrong and the car was listed as an Auris 1.4 T2 NOT as an LE2. Called to query it and was told that the reg must have been input incorrectly back in October and that the new details actually increased the policy renewal to £670!! Plus they wanted me to back pay £180 for the existing policy. They agreed to honour this years policy amount and not have me pay the £180 but my question is this...why is an Auris 1.4 LE2 almost £100 more expensive to insure than an Auris 1.4 T2 - which is EXACTLY the same spec???0

You need to ask your insurer that question.....maybe they have experienced more claims from LE2s, so statistically it's seen as a greater risk.0 -
Hi all,
Significant increase in this years quote. Following MSE's advice checked the Job name that Ins Co. have recorded, and it's already one of the best. Explanation for increase is, not suprisingly the prang in January which the other party's Ins Co. is refusing to pay up and next stage is to proceed to court. Incidentally the other party actually admited liability on the spot although, of course, I didn't get it in writing. They say they've given quote based on 'worst case' possiblity of this incident going against me which, added to a previous one, now gives 2 claims in 3 years. I have NCD protection.
I'm assuming that to use the price comparison sites effectivly I would need to declare 2 'lost' claims in past 3 years, even though one is not resolved?
Any comments appreciated, thanks in advance. After the comparision I would prefer to stick with Direct Line as the repair and replacement car (same size) was excellent, i.e. asking their 'Loyalty dept.' if they would like to revise the price downward.

I need to buy a second hand car soon but want one where the insurance and road tax will be cheaper in relation to other makes/models. Does anyone know of a website or the rules where I can decide which car to buy. At the moment I'm considering a Ford Fiesta but that could change if the running costs are so much cheaper for a different make or model. Thanks in advance for any help.0

this website gives car insurance groups
http://www.carpages.co.uk/car-insurance/
Fiestas have changed body shapes and the newer ones are higher insurance group I think than the old ones.
I have a Ford Ka and I think that's either a 1 or a 2 group. I think newer fiestas tend to be 4 or 5.
There's a website called warranty direct that gives some data on car repair prices and other information for various makes and models. I wouldn't actually buy a warranty off them (or anyone else!) but the website has some good data on it.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
Hi,
Until 2 years ago I had 7 years no claims bonus and still have the letter from my last insurer saying so. In the last two years I've not owned car but have occasionally driven my boyf's company car under his company insurance policy during which I've also had no claims.
I am about to buy a car now, how many years no claims can I have for insurance purposes? And, if the answers 9, how do I prove it?
Thanks in advance.

You only earn NCB when you are the policyholder, so you have 7. If it's from less than 2 years ago, you have a wide choice of insurers who will accept it, but if it is more than 2 years "old", you will have a struggle - (one I know that will accept it is aviva).0

Thanks Quentin - I think it's just under 2 years so sounds like I am safe! Thanks for your advice.0

Hi there,
I am presently about to learn to drive and have just bought a Transit Connect which I plan to practise in. I am mid forties and plan also to take my pass plus test. I have fitted the van with a rear view cam and an insurance company recognised alarm, and it also was resprayed and had alloys fitted when I bought it.
Being a newbie I am at a bit of a loss as to where to start looking for insurance. I am not a young driver so 'young provisional' companies such as Endsleigh don't apply. I assume I need specific 'van' insurance rather than general car, but will it be possible to find provisional cover for a van, preferably recognizing my pass plus course with a discount after I pass it, and be accepting of the modifications? Will my age/cam help in terms of discount? And are comparison sites useless because of my provisional status and van modifications and can I still use cashback sites?
Many thanks

Hope you have VERY deep pockets, Why that particular vehicle?
What sort of business will you be using it for? The insurance will assume you will be
using it for business or reward of some kind.
Your not the pefect customer insurance companies are looking for, Get the yellow
pages out and start ringing.
Make sure your sitting down when they wuote prices, After passing your test the
price can increase as you are more of a risk being unsupervised.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
