Hi forgotmyname thanks for the reply. I am a DJ by night so I need to travel around the country with equipment. I realise that I'm not the ideal customer but have tried to ease the process a little with the cam and alarm, and was hoping the fact that I'm not 17 might count for something.
I also hoped that doing the pass plus may counterbalance a little the fact that I will be unsupervised after passing my test.0 -

Hi
My query is do we need to have car insurance if the car is going to be kept in a garage and not used?
My husband is going away for 6mths so the car will be left in the garage with tyres taken off! Allthough it still has full MOT we have declared it SORN and the insurance is due to run out next month.
We live on an Army base, so theft should be ruled out! So it would only be fire that could damage it??
What do we do?
Many thanks0 -
If you are happy to risk a fire, you don't have to have it insured.0

I am a named driver on an Aviva policy and can get insurance for a car I am buying, using the 70% NCD earned as a named driver. When it comes to renewing next year will I get a full NCD or just 1 year?
I have found that Kwik Fit ins is slightly cheaper, but that is with no NCD, so next year it will def be only 1yr.0 -
I own a Peugeot 206 GTI 2 litre, and at 24 it isn't that cheap even with 5 years NCB, but I still got it down to £590 fully comp. As I have a partner I wanted to look at including him on my car insurance as he has now had a 1 years licence (before that no1 would add him to my policy) anyway following Martins guide all comparison sites were quoting stupid money (over £900!!) APART from Aviva who actually quoted me £120 cheaper than my renewal price to include him so I thought that was good enough then I found out my cars rear axel is about to break on me and would cost over £1000 just for parts so my partner said he would buy it off me for a few hundred, slowly get it fixed and have it for himself....anyway!
So just bought a VW Golf GTI 2 litre again not cheap to insure and all sites were quoting me extortionate prices (Over £1,200!!) because what I didn't know was your NCB can only be included on your 1st car!!! Anyway I spoke to Aviva as they have the more than 1 car added 6% off discount, they also added the 15% discount you get online as they currently have a technical error, and they used the fact he had a provisional since he was 17 to show he has had a licence for 9 years!! All in all I got my 1st car, and 2nd car, for fully comp all the added extras and for me and my partner as named drivers for only £900!!!!
And as my partner is paying me half it works out cheaper for me than having just myself on the policy for 1 car lol
I would definately advise everyone to consider using them as they really brightened up my dayCredit Cards at 25/12/2017: £1297.36/17,936.78

It may have nothing to do with your rediculous quotes but have you checked if any motoring convictions have been applied to your account making you look bad to insurers?
Reason I ask is when I rung up Aviva, he asked me about convictions etc. and I said I had 1 speeding fine SP30 last year, and he asked me about my other 2....which I have never had but was set against my account which would of shown me to have 9 points and obviously increasing my quote prices, I told him they wern't correct and he cleared them off my account and I got my quotation down by about £650!

You are only happy because they are cheap! Read up (both on here and across the net) just what they are like service wise. There is more to it than being cheap!

Renewed my policy recently, filled in on line so when it asked how many years NCD I said more than 9 which was what site asked. It is 20 years since I had an accident and made a claim. So I got a quote about £30 less than renewal with my old company. So I paid, forwarded renewal notice from old company as anyone does and this morning got a bill for another £19.85. It turns out that my previous company said I had more than 6 years which is what their maximum NCD was. I had said more than 9 online but the renewal only showed 6. When you change companies watch out for this one. I thought I could spot small print but I admit I HAVE BEEN CAUGHT.:mad:0
