i found a really cheap car insurance provider, they gave me the lowest of quotes ! all depending on how you use your car and how much you drive it, it could work out cheap for you too !. i strongly suggest that anyone looking to renew looks at this provider, they are called COVERBOX, A free tracker is included in the premium, this tracks your vehicle if it is stolen, it also tracks the amount of milage, and c02 emissions.
The way it works is that you give them an estimated annual millage, but it is best to give a true estimate as this could affect your renewal with them, for example, if you estimated 5000 miles in a year and did over that estimate, your next years premiums would be higher, but if you stay below or dont do as many miles as your estimate it could work out very cheap for you to renew, and your next years premiums would be cheaper than your first with them ! They also track whether you drive at peak or off peak time, this is also included in your estimate..........Anyway this could be a cheaper option for some..............so check it out !
These types of insurances work on the basis of more than estimating annual mileage. Usually you agree to do only a certain amount of miles in order to keep the insurance charge low. However, if you exceed what you have agreed at the outset, then they charge you for each extra mile that you travel and it's not cheap from what I've read.

You're right in that it may work out cheaper for some. But exceeding what you have agreed with them would mean you face hefty excess charges for each mile you drive outside of the agreed limit. I can't see that it would affect next years premium if you went into excess because they would actually cream off hefty amounts of cash from you if you went over the agreed mileage. So long as you didn't have a claim, then next years premium would normally be lower if you were a young, new driver say.

I don't think so. The insurance would be in your wifes name so the no claims bonus would have to be hers, earned in her own right.

I may be wrong on this and I'm sure someone will come along and say if I am.

    Dear Quentin and Steve,

If a car is on a road, parked or driven it MUST be insured. It's absolute! Road includes the footway.

I don't suppose you would have a link to the law that deals with parked cars?

There are plenty of companies that will allow you to do this. It generally is subject to your wife having a good history eg no claims or convictions although sometimes they will accept some. In addition it is normally subject to your wife having a full uk licence for a few years.

You will normally be required to issue a letter agreeing to the transfer and stating you understand it cannot be transferred back to you at a later date (In a lot of cases eg your wife goes to a different insurer afterwards you can transfer it back).

Try speaking to a local broker (Not Swintons)

Has Car Insurance prices shot up this year? My renewal quote this year seems to have jumped by about £6 per month, don't they normally come down each year? Also quotations online are approximately double what I am paying at the moment.
