Thank you Raskazz, that info is really useful. I am sick of people/services 'lumping' mental health difficulties together as one. They have no knowledge or experience behind them to do this. I will certainly take your advice and follow it through, once I get a bee in my bonnet I will see it to its conclusion. I will keep the forum updated for other members who might be interested.

just renewed with existing insurer... after spending hours thr' comparison sites. Have to accept a 25% hike, yet still a lot cheaper than any of the compared results :(

Ditto, I found the exact same, just paid for mine and it has gone up considerably, considering the recession is still hovering over us all, has lots of people decided not to insure this year to explain the rise???

    Hi,

I have followed Martins advice and looked for a better quote on car insurance but am now even more confused.

The quotes ranges widely between comparison sites (even for the same company)

Even including cashback they really are not much better than my renewal.

If I renew with my insurance company then will lose any chance of cashback so will save nothing.

Last year I paid £99 fully comp. this year its going to be more like £150 plus
  • Sounds like you should be listing the top 10 quotes from the comparison sites then looking to see how much cash back you can get through topcashback for each of the companies, that will give you the cheapest price year after year - all you have to do is move to another supplier each year. (Loyalty does not pay ;))

Last year i had a junker car to get me through the snow (ok I'm a biker) paid £9/mth insurance and canceled when the snow went away: got £40 cashback from the policy ~ now figure that one out :p

This works for most insurances (that I've tried) car, motorbike, pet and house.

I can only do this for me; but i guess it would work for most people:) Try it asap.

hi i have just signed up looking for advice and tips about car insurance heres my problem
im 17 years old i just passed my driving test 5 weeks ago and have not currently had the money to get car insurance becasue all the quotes are ranging from £2000 - £10000 on a peugeot 206 1.1L which is my mothers car. I dont get all the named driver and policy stuff i just want to reduce the prices if i can? I have left school a year now and did not go into further education and wanted to get a job but ive found it hard to find someone that will take me on because im young and in experienced. Since christmas i have been working on and off with my cousin but not reguarly and i wasnt to sure if i should mention this to the insurance companies shall I mention it? Will it reduce the amount that it will cost me? also my insturctor is telling me to do PASS PLUS with him privatley, does the insurers actually take the 30% off and if im doing it privatley how can i prove that i have done it, will my instructor give me something? I have a few friends that have recently passed and there insurers have quoted them £1500 and when i ring them up they give me a higher price, my friends are the same age as me?? I just need pointers in the right directions. Also if you can point out some good insurers that take on young drivers that would be great thanks for reading and thanks in advance to anyone who replys to me.

    Hiya,

Give Adrian Flux a try they are reasonable for young drivers. Give the insurance companies the correct information. If its you mothers car thats ok that your a named driver on the policy, but tell the truth about who will use it the most - if you don't its known as fronting and illegal - it can invalidate your insurance.

Give the insurance company all of the details and if you take the policy out take the name and make a note of the time and date. Most companies record all calls but if there is a problem finding the call then you have a record.

With regards to your Pass plus - depends on the insurance company if they recognise it or not.

Finally when you get your documents through read them carefully, people don't do this and it can cause problems later on if there is a claim for example.

    Hope this helps.:)
  • I'm still confused by terms like "Super collision damage waiver", "zero excess" and "refundable excess", and whether these are terms/products that sit side-by-side or whether one insurance ever logically precludes another.

Is there anything approaching a definitive guide on the subject? Or would that just ruin the viability/profitablity of the Car Insurance racket?

I'm in the same boat - £175 last year, fully comp with Co-Op then £75 back from Quidco. Now all quotes are around £200 and max cashback is around £25.

Probably gonna end up renewing with Co-op at £189 at this rate.
