I am so mad! My car insurance is due in Aug, and have received my renewal notice from Elephant, using the same info as last year.
I paid £371 fully comp last year and my renewal quote has come back at £550 this year, A hike of £180!!!
I have called Elephant and the best they can do is £486, their excuse is that my area has a high number of uninsured drivers. I wouldn't mind a bit extra but an extra £180 is taking the p**s.
I have followed Martins advise and they are all coming in about £500. I have never claimed in my life neither has my OH, I always thought that insurance would be cheaper the older you get, the car's a 6yr old Jag estate not a porche!

Can anyone give me any advice on how to reduce the premium?

    Thanks,

It's the same all over, I had to look for a policy for my son last week as his renewal had gone up £100 and he's not a young driver, all the comparisons were coming in at more than his renewal.
There was a piece in the paper last week about insurance going up at between 10 to 30% due to the amount of claims made for personal injury, I've heard that people who aren't in the car at the time make claims to get money although I believe that clauses have now been put in policies that you have to prove that you were actually in the car when something happened, it's only right as it's the innocent that suffer

I'm a new driver, just bought my first car and will be able to insure it from next Thursday. As a 42 year old new driver my cheapest qoute from all comparison sites was £652 with Victoria London. I have passplus but that made no difference to the policy costs because I did a comparison with and without passplus but well worth doing it anyway. My question is about the company. Is anyone with them?
  • Hi everyone

Could anyone help me with car insurance query, please?
Does anybody know what car insurers accept NCB from abroad (i.e. Poland)? I found only one so far (Elephant)?

Where can I find such information?

    Cheers

  • Morning All - my first post - eeak!

After some much needed advice if anyone can help please! Its the time of year when my insurance has come for renewal and it appears that Hastings have hiked my policy from £756 to £1305. Ouch.

Back on February 11th, I bumped my car into another in Tesco. Whilst reversing out of a space I clipped the wheel arch of another car causing a large scratch. We swapped insurance details, and following a few letters which took 10 days in all to complete, I admitted liability (this isn't the problem) and sent off a full quote for repair which for my dent came to a total of £300.

Having not heard a response for one month I chased it up with my insurance company who informed me that the second party had not responded and they therefore assumed that she was dropping the claim. As the damage on my car does not effect its driving ability, I am prepared to let the damage stand. This was middle of march!

Received my quote yesterday with a claim on there dated 11 February! Much to my unfortunate surprise when I called to question what was going on, apparently Hastings are still waiting to hear back from the second driver! This has been over five months outstanding and the last note on the claim states they are waiting on a reply stating what the damage was to her car!

ARRRGHHH! At what point is the claim closed due to lack of interest?! Very frustrated. If the claim goes ahead I would be happy to get my car repaired and lose my no claims - if it is dropped I would also be happy just to take my three years no claims and get a cheaper quote! However as it stands my car is looking like a dodgem and I have a higher insurance premium.

If anyone could confirm what length of time I should be expected to wait I would be very appreciative! Thanks :)

You need to put that question to Hastings.

You can still go elsewhere on renewal (though would of course need to declare the incident). Explain it is unresolved, and ask that should you get your NCD reinstated by your current insurer the new insurer will amend the premium and refund any balance to you.
