inxi is not a command I'd heard of either, and it's not installed on my debian systems, but I see there is a package available:
$ apt-cache search inxi
inxi - full featured system information script
Another command to find installed hardware is
lspci -vv
And dmesg can be useful (shows all the boot messages as the kernel was starting up). Needs sudo these days. (Yikes, just spotted something nasty in my dmesg output !)0 -

Most routers (all the home ones I have seen) come with a short Ethernet cable. 5 minutes with a cable VS downloading from another computer, copying it over, going to terminal, then typing a few lines of commands from a screen elsewhere, and does it have dependencies not on the disk? - so you can guess which one i did
try this long way but diwnload the 32 but version https://cects.com/bcm4311-mint16-nowireless-nointernet/?cn-reloaded=10 -

Have you plugged in both connectors?
Both need to be plugged in;0 -
The HDD is plugged into the cradle which somebody, possibly you, suggested on E bay and that is then connected to the pc via a usb and lead.
