Windows to Linux

Because most people say that Linux is far better than Windows. If the worst comes to the worst I have the HDD that I took out of the Acer I could put that int the Compaq or buy another cheap SSD, about £17, and re install windows.10. Most people have made the switch say they wouldnt go back to Windows and their only regret is that they didnt do it years ago.0

Forget about that "most people" nonsense. It's simply not true.
It's not better, it's just different. I can assure that almost everyone here who uses a form of Linux, is also using Windows.
Since you already have Windows on two devices, it won't hurt to try Linux out on one of them.
But don't expect miracles, especially on that device.
Also, forget about putting the ACER drive in there. What would be the purpose of that? It's SSD or leave it as it is.
You have very clear instructions as to how to create a Bootable USB Flash Drive or DVD. A few steps back. No need for Rufus, as it is too complicated for you.0 -
since you now have mint experience, and since you have not used it much, why not reinstall again?
this tie when it asks to insert a user name type 'super' and the password 'super'... If you use luks - the disk encryption make that password 'super' too, yes make all passwords and accounts 'super'.
Once you become familiar you can always change things.
10 is no longer free, unless you upgrade from 7, or have a disability feature switched on.
next time around change that screen saver p/w to 'super' after installing
There is nothing wrong with mint, but for me MX Linux flies. Boots quicker on my dual core 4GB rust spinner laptop i5 than my main windows laptop with 4 core i7, 16Gb and ssd. https://mxlinux.org/download-links/
Also when you have installed linux, go to youtube and type 'mint linux things to do', and see if you want those features too?0 -

To change things in Mint often I am asked for an administration password which is clearly one I input during or immediately after installing mint. Can you re install over the current installation or format the drive then start again this time noting any passwords and letting it run until it completes.0 -
Hello SS since you want 32 bit why not try fedora, you can find it here https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/
Look for 32 bit ISO (near the end of the page) download that on your windows machine
then use rufus to create a live-usb which you can boot, you can find rufus here https://rufus.ie/4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
SuperSeagull wrote: »yes that is what I created the dvd from as the pc hardware will not take 64 bit. Hence considering the recommendation of mx but cannot find 32 But version.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mx-linux/
Select the 386 version.0 -
Is this 32bit MX linux?
https://mxlinux.org/download-links/
Not a suggestion for the op (or me!) but it looks to be available.
Edit. The above looks easier.0 -
It is if you go to the mirrors, select one from the List and then choose the 386 version.0

No need for Rufus in this case. You linked to a much easier option for him in post #101; https://www.balena.io/etcher/0 -
