I am quite enjoying this as it is new to me and I am learning more even at 77 years old, although I do get a little frustrated at times.
No need. Just use your existing DVD, if it is the latest version.0 -
Coming very late to this party, let me add my 2p worth.
My desktop is now 11 years old. C2D at 2.2GHz. Adding a SSD revitalised this, and it still works pretty well for office tasks, including dictation software.
This laptop is only 5 years old. N2380 Celeron 2 cores running at 2.2GHz. It's 'adequate'. Slow, but it gets there eventually. It was cheap, at least! Adding a SSD made scarcely any difference.
Both W10 with 4GB of RAM.
HTHNo reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Would I gain anything significantly by changing the HDD in the Compaq to SSD as I did with the Acer.0

It will always make a difference. Just don't spend much on it. Have you installed an OS to the Compaq?0 -
Yes I just switched on this morning and it said it was installing Linux Mint so it obviously takes sometime and I switched it off too soon. It is up and running but I cannot access the internet as it only shows as wired. So I am going to connect it to the modem with an Ethernet cable and see if that helps and the allows me to go wireless. Any suggestions will be welcome.0

That didnt work and it still showed as wired and lead unplugged. I am obviously doiung something wrong or failing to do some simple task.0

Not necessarily. It's could be that the Wireless Driver is not immediately available.
Where are the Linux Mint experts?
