You're right, I thought Lidl increased the 2.09 one to 2.79, but I just never saw the 2.09 one and picked up the more expensive one. Imo, the Lidl more expensive one is actually worse than the 2.09 one, both are 2 ply but it's harder.

So LIDL is cheaper for toilet roll due to the 220 sheets vs 200 sheets (Tesco).

I think this is right. I can't compare with Tesco, because there isn't one here. But Morrisons and Sainsburys are definitely more expensive than Aldi. Asda is somewhere in the middle, I would say.

I'd go a step further and suggest that Sainsbury's is considerably more expensive than Aldi. For reasons of location rather than choice, I get a direct comparison between Aldi, where I do my main shop, and Sainsbury's, where I do a weekend top-up shop. Sainsbury's is far more expensive..

Morrison's, which I use once every few weeks when I happen to be near one, seem a fair bit cheaper than Sainsbury's though still not as cheap as Aldi.

I also find Sainsburys very expensive although the quality is slightly better. At least Tesco are trying to compete with Lidl/Aldi.

I do about half my shopping at Aldi, but ordered a delivery from Sainsbury's this morning, as I had a voucher for £12 off a £50 shop. Sainsbury's didn't have Maple Syrup or Pecan Nuts, so I had to go to Aldi anyway.

Sainsburys is about 10 times the size of Aldi. If they want people to shop there (I don't usually), they need to have items in stock.

I don't think they'll succeed though. Lidl are currently running an advertising campaign showing comparative prices for a trolley of shopping including some branded items. As you'd expect Lidl win hands down.

I shop in Aldi with (ever decreasing) visits to Sainsburys for the few items I need that Aldi don't stock. I visit Lidl just occasionally as my nearest one is in a horrible location for traffic. When another branch opens closer to home in the next few months I'll be comparing them.

Personally the trolley of goods comparison isn't really fair and they could cherry pick.

One thing I hate about Aldi and Lidl is the lack of self checkouts. And Aldi has no fresh bakery - first world problems.

I think customers cherry pick if we have the time but a large trolley full seems to include (from what I can see in the advert) a decent size shop.

Strangely enough our city centre store has lots of self service check outs but that's maybe because they don't anticipate people doing a full shop there.

I've seen one Lidl with self checkout but never Aldi

That's a Lidl with the self check outs.

I don't think Aldi have moved into fresh bakery.
