I've just had this email through and am assuming it a scam, although it is addressed to my full name but I have checked the account (via the address bar and not a link on the email), nothing untoward that I can see of. Plus I haven't even used this account for ages. This is definately not my main account..
Natalie, add a payment method to PayPal

Add paypal@info.paypal.co.uk to your Address BookDear ***********,
Unfortunately, your recent PayPal transaction was declined because you do not have a valid credit card, debit card or bank account registered with PayPal.
If you have used PayPal to make a purchase before, it may be that the credit or debit card you had registered has now expired.
Add a payment method to PayPal
1.
Log in to your PayPal account at www.paypal.co.uk 2.
Go to Profile and select from the list 'My Money'. 3.
Follow the instructions to add your chosen payment method.
Once you have added a valid debit or credit card to your PayPal account, you will be able to complete safer, faster transactions with PayPal.
We also recommend registering your bank account details with PayPal. Unlike cards, your bank account does not have an expiry date which means it will not need updating on PayPal. You will need to complete our bank confirmation process to pay with your bank account via PayPal. To find out more, see our guide.
Yours sincerely,
PayPalHow do I know this is not a Spoof email? Spoof or ‘phishing’ emails tend to have generic greetings such as "Dear PayPal member". Emails from PayPal will always address you by your first and last name. Find out more here.

I got one of these a couple of weeks ago as well as today. I logged in to my account last time (not via the link) and couldn't see any problem.
I have not used the account for about 4 months, but am about to buy from ebay.
Any chance this could be real?
Thanks,

It is certainly a fake l forwarded the very same email on the 15/11/2011 to spoof@paypal.com as l had infact recently had to submit ID etc to stop my account being limited (a genuine paypal requirement) and was suspicious as the email above mentioned a suspended account of which l didn't have. Paypal replied and confirmed it being a fake.0 -
Thanks, not sure how I would spot a real one. They did have my name correct, rather than just paypal member, which is why I wavered.
I had also just got the phone call about my computer throwing up error messages that could be seen by the Windows support team and asking me to turn on my computer so they could show me what they meant.
The conversation went like this
Me 'What computer?'
Them 'Your computer'
'Yes, but which one?'
'How many have you got?'
'Three'
'Anyone then, it doesn't matter which'
'So, the Macbook then?'
'The one with windows'
'I don't have windows, so I don't have a problem do I?'
'You aren't using Windows operating system?'
'No, so I can't have a problem that you can see, can I?'
'Sorry, wrong number'
