catnap, the fake virus call in becoming common, go and look on the techie board and also the warnings board- a lot of us are being plagued by these scum bags.

With paypal though they are very obvious, if it isn't in your paypal account when you log in safely- then it isn't real. Basically anything with a link is wrong.

• Yet another Spoof email recieved a few minutes ago. Interestingly l had just returned from the pet shop after using my Pay Pal Access Card, ok so it may not be relevant but would be interesting if other people get the same email after using their card today.

I noticed with this particular email the senders email address had a space after the @ e.g. it was service@ paypal.co.uk

• I have been stung too by a Paypal / ebay scam email, it asked me to log in via an email link, very naive of me I know! Managed to contact ebay and resolve before anything bad happened but seem to be getting new emails all the time now. I can see how people can fall foul of this!
• I got an email proportedly from paypal but something in the wording made me think twice, it just didnt read correctly. Its interesting to know that other people have had similar. i shall be vigilant!

Recent tricks:

paypal's domain spelt as paypaI (capital I at the end instead of lower case L).

message stating there is an unclaimed payment, giving link that is not a genuine paypal link. Actual URL was not a genuine PP link (surprise surprise...).

Had one this evening

Subject - ceedgrow has sent a question about Return for item #090882839342, that ended on Feb-19-12 003533 PDT !
From -eBay member@eb-ay.com

Usual ebay question header and footers, message was "
Hi,

Do you accept Paypal? Please respond asap!

-ceedgrow"

With the "repond now" link linking to a polish website (with the other links linking to what appears to be the genuine ebay pages by the address).

What set alarms bells of was the lack of ebay user-name and that I know the year is going so fast but I don't think it's the 19th Feb yet :rotfl:

• Hi Guys

I got a fake email from Paypal this morning,

nothing unusual about that but it came from service@paypal.co.uk <service@paypal.co.uk>;

I just copied and pasted that email address from the fake email.

Am I right isnt that the correct email for Paypal, my question is I can understand getting an email from a similar address with a space here or a letter changed but how did they send an email that looks like it came from the real Paypal email address.

I knew it was bogus straight away and when I logged into my Paypal account and it was not listed as I expected.

I forwared the email on to Paypal spoof@paypal.co.uk and they confirmed it was fake but they did not answer my question how did it appear to come from the valid email address.

I thought I was fairly, savy about emails / the internet. Am I missing something.

If anyone wants to take a look at the email I can forward it on if you want.

Off down the pub now, hope someone can help its been driving me crazy all day. the only explanation I could come up with was someone inside paypal sent the email.

A return address can easily be faked. I really wouldn't start panicking that PayPal employees are sending phishing emails.

Thanks

I didnt know the return email could be faked, you learn something new every day.

Are you sure if thats the case why do they bother using similar email addreses if they can just fake it.
