  • Got this one today, thought it was real (though didn't click anything). I forwarded it to paypal and the message came back that it was a spoof.
The buyer mentioned had bought from us from that item number but has already left us feedback saying the item had arrived safely.
After looking at it more carefully all I can see wrong is the date format

eBay sent this message to xxxxx (xxxxxx).
Your registered name is included to show this message originated from eBay.

    Hello xxxxx!

Notice: Your buyer tried to open a case. Please contact the buyer.

    Dear xxxxxx,

A buyer tried to open an eBay Buyer Protection case because the item hasn't arrived yet. It was too soon to open a case, so we asked the buyer to contact you. If you haven't already heard from the buyer, we recommend you get in touch with the buyer. Most issues can be worked out through email or a simple phone call.

BUYER ID ITEM # LISTING TITLE CASE ATTEMPT DATE
    xxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxx 2010-12-17
By working directly with the buyer, you'll be able to provide good customer service, and may be able to avoid a case being opened.

Here are some ways to help avoid a case for an item not received:

Ship with tracking (and signature confirmation for items £150 and above) and upload the tracking information right away.
Print your shipping label on eBay or PayPal.
Ship within your stated handling time.
If there's a shipping delay, let the buyer know.
You can view a list of best practices for successful selling.

    Thanks,
    eBay

  • I have had quite a few spoof email from Paypal asking for account details etc etc you need to be careful.
  • Hi - I wonder if anyone has had their paypal account 'limited'. When I logged in they asked for my full card number, then I had to change my password. Then they wanted to ring me at my home address.
Is it because I tried to purchase from a different computer?

    Thanks

Very probably, sometimes using a different IP triggers a fraud alert. I've had the same myself.

I wonder if this is because a number of invalid login attempts have been made and the email address is known to hackers.

Make sure your new password is very strong.

This is a new one on me:

I was in my ebay account, went down left hand side and clicked onto paypal account. Came up as a separate window as usual but:

I logged in and it stated that due to a rise in fraudulent access at paypal and to help me I had to provide:
    Name
    Bank card number
    expiry
    cvs number
    ATM pin number

Some of the grammar was wrong and also ATM? Didnt input anything
Opened up a separate page and logged into my account via paypal main page and it went straight to my account.
Called paypal and they knew nothing and said it was a fraud attempt so have sent screen shot etc at their request to paypal and ebay.

But this wasn't an email sent to me it was me logging into paypal from my ebay account??? strange.

You need to do a Google search for something like:

malware cvs number ATM pin number

Given following link is 2 years old a virus scanner should be picking something up.

I just sold an item on Gumtree and received this email from Paypal. I didn't think anything of it till I checked my account tonight and the balance is zero.

This is a fraud yes? Obvious parts have been removed.

Edit: I quick Google of his email address tells me it is a scam. The "Paypal" email addess on the mail actual goes to a personal email address for this person.
