I had 2 emails from paypal this morning which looked very suspicious.
One was saying they couldn't take funds due to a bank process error and the other said they couldn't take due to account being closed.

I rang paypal and they reckon they haven't been able to claim the money so the bank details have been removed from my account. Spoke to my bank who said money has gone to paypal and account definately open.
Still not sure, whats going on.

I think you have a similar situation with showmethemoneyuk. They are probably from old bank accounts you used with PayPal just like what happened to showmethemoneyuk.

Have you all forwarded these emails to PayPal? Cause they seem to have some problems with their email notification or their system.

• but I noticed firstly that the guy who won my bid was from the UK and second that the e-mail address this actually comes from is not paypal.co.uk it is:
verify-customers@accountant.com

Obviously I will not be sending my item to this guy! What a t*****

Just thought I would warn anyone else that may come across this.
Just got sent:
Your account has been limited and will be suspended.

From: PayPal Service Customer <services@paypal.com>

Dear Customer (dead giveaway there),

Please download the attachment and read and complete the form to remove the
limit or your account will be permanently suspended.
PayPal protects their community and sometimes we verify information that we
belive does not match credit card billing addressor another IP has been used
to login into your paypal account.

Paypal is an Ebay company.
Thank you.

PayPal Validation Department
Message ID 8128F
with an attachment.

If you get the same message, don't open the attachment (odds are it'll plant a keylogger or similar to nick your password), and if you're concerned it might be genuine, log into paypal (by typing Paypal.com into Google / your URL bar and going from there) and if you're account's really limited, you'll be able to see it there and get it sorted.

Stay alert and stay safe, everyone :)

I got this today. It has a html attachment. I presume it's bogus. The thing is though, the reply address for the email is -service@paypal.co.uk

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedure we have detected a
slight error in your PayPal account.

This might be due to the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information (ie. change of address, email address)

2. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal
error within our systems.

We have attached a form to this email. Please download the form and follow the
instructions on your screen. NOTE: The form needs to be opened in a modern browser which has
javascript enabled (ex: Internet Explorer, Firefox ,Netscape)

Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help protect you and your account.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporary suspend your account.

Sincerely,
PayPal Account Review Department.

• This week my friend's son sold his iPhone on ebay, chap brought it said to post it when we had notification from paypal as they were holding the money, got notification from paypal saying they had £317 of his money and to give them the tracking number off the postal receipt and they would release the money to us, we posted it gave the tracking number and no money came, spoke to paypal who said the email was not from them but had lots of cases of this happening, the post office would not intercept the parcel, ebay don't want to know so rang the police, if they had gone yesterday morning they could have caught the bloke as he signed for it at the address he gave us but of course that didn't happen.

Is there anything we can do, or anything that protects us from this kind of crime, to get his £317 back. He is a 19 year old student and simply cannot afford to lose this money, as none of us can.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You will need to go through small claims to recover this money.

It does pay to understand paypal though, the item shouldn't even have been sent when you think about it as until you log into paypal to view the transaction you don't even have the 'OK to send' address to use, therefore merely taking a moment to log in and check will save you a lot of hassle in future.

Had this email this morning, not sure if it is real or not. I don't normally get emails from paypal on this email account, although the email address is on my paypal account along with two other (hubbys and my old surname)
There is a "Click here to verify your account" link to click on but I'm not sure if I should.

Dear paypal member= spam.

You don't need to read any further.

Frankly this is a very obvious spam and I am concerned that you even considered it might be real for more than a nano second. These go out in the millions every day as they know that virtually no one will fall for them anymore, please read up on keeping yourself safe online generally as these scum can only be beaten if we all refuse to allow ourselves to be scammed.
