Just got this, is it a scam?

That looks real to me... emails from Paypal/eBay tend to use your real name as the addressee instead of 'Dear Paypal user/eBay user'.

Think i'm being spammed. I sold a mobile phone on ebay, the winning bidder registered, bid on my phone, won my phone then un-registerered!! I have now received 2 emails that look like they are from ebay, one stating i've received an unpost item strike, the other advising me of account termination at 10am Monday if i do not send the item. I have not replied to these email messages and forward them to ebay - why me? Has this person got any of my personal information - am i at risk of losing money etc?

Dawnie - go here and follow the procedure:

http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100141048&tstart=0&mod=1201174617718

Ignore any threatening emails. ESPECIALLY if they don't have your name at the start of them. If you're in doubt about an email you've received or the process, start your own thread and it will get more attention :)

Thanks have spoken to ebay, they are spam emails, have changed all details on my ebay account and blocked the sender. If anyone gets a bid from JOYNEL30K77 ignore it and block them!

Unfortunately this kind of fraud is relatively easy to commit. There is little that can be done about it. Be aware and don't give details to any website that looks a bit out of sorts
• lots of pals have had fraud on ebay after clicking a link on an email so i always forward to spoof@ebay, however i got one last week saying i'm the lucky winner of XXX i forwarded to spoof as normal, but i did start to wonder when i never got a reply from the spoof/ebay...so i looked at my ebay account last night to see i'd won 9 items! (of course i hadn't bid on them etc) most say they've been paid for via paypal, when i hovered over the blue pound sign it says view the transaction, i was wary, i clicked and straight away a warning came up that it wasn;t a real ID (or something like that) i changed my ebay password and spent hours talking to them last night on live ebay chat,

even tho i changed the password i could not get into my account for hours, ebay said they'd contact all the sellers. (2 of which have given me good feedback for quick payment) luckily nothing has come off my paypal account....i emailed paypal straigh away and also changed my password for paypal...

i also changed my email password, and discovered that i had recieved lots of emails from the sellers, but they were all in my deleted folders on my email account??? and even wierder all ebay addresses had been put into my blocked list..so i think maybe my email account was hijacked too!

i'm just grateful no money has come off, but its left me feeling very untrustworthy of ebay..nobody has explained how this could happen.

also, when you change your password on ebay, you are meant to edit these details in your paypal profile..(its so when you pay on ebay it can go straight thru) i have actually left it now, just for extra security over the next couple of days..what a hassle!
totally a tog!:D

I paid for an item on friday through paypal/ebay (first time using paypal in 2 yrs), and according to my bank, it was accepted and went through. my problem however is yesterday, I received 2 emails, both directly stated as being sent to my real name and real email address (not the 'To: paypal_user' from typical spam). whats more, they are both supposedly from the correct "service@paypal.co.uk" <service@paypal.co.uk>'' address.

My first email :-

''Dear Alexander,
We attempted to cancel our Direct Debit Instruction (DDI) from your bank account ending in 7629. The transaction was declined during our processing.
Therefore, to protect your account, access your online banking and cancel the DDI yourself. You can also call or visit your bank to do so manually.
We look forward to continuing to offer you the number one way to send and receive money online.

Yours sincerely,
PayPal

My second email :-

''Dear Alexander Munro,
On , we attempted to transfer from your bank account, ending in . This transfer was returned by your bank on for the reason below:
There was a bank processing error.
As a result, this bank account has been removed from your PayPal account. Please contact your bank for more information or add a new bank account. Please do not contact PayPal because this is entirely an issue between the account holder and their bank.

The infomation above really is a direct copy and paste job (although i did remove the empty spaces). With my recent transation, I did start to worry, until I realised I did not have a bank account relating to any of the above bank account info (the 7629 from the first email), and with the dates and bank info from the second email being completely missing anyway! either spam email of this type is giving up on the usual money making techniques, and now trying to get me to merely cancel possible current transactions (!).. the result of bored paypal staff?! :(

I have noticed some recent/more clever spam email (not just from paypal) can use my actual email address, but this is the first spam I have received the next working day after a real transaction, and noted as being from the real paypal.
I have found a similar paypal problem from 2008 so im assuming its all one big joke, but the users here believed it to be possibly genuine

I hopes my emails help anybody who may start receiving anything similar in future. :D

Showmethemoney those are actually legit paypal emails. The 7629 is probably the card number not the bank account. Anything with your name on will be directly from paypal. It can take 5 days for the payment to go through and then they still can be reversed your online banking may take a few days before the payment shows as rejected

i dont have a bank service with that number, as either the accounts number, or its relating card number, at all. I only have one card linked to paypal.. and its not the same one. info is missing in the second email, eg ''On , we attempted to transfer from your bank account, ending in .'' no date, and no account details, show in the email- they are completely missing. I have tried another computer, but they still do not show. i checked the bank account I use for my paypal purchases, and it worked for my recent transaction. i have in my account what i should. i will keep an eye on it over the next few days, but i received a 'thanks for your payment' from paypal and ebay on the 5th. i checked my bank account today via atm, and also online. the money supposedly was taken out today on the 9th with no problems. one of the suspect emails asks me to cancel a direct debit transaction via my bank website, but my bank account online shows me the money has been taken with no problems at all. there is simply nothing to cancel. I can only assume with incorrect card details, missing information, and a very general 'bank processing error', that these emails are not legit. even if they are legit, i shouldnt worry, as 7629 does not relate to my paypal and/or bank acount in any way. perhaps paypal are having problems of their own if its not a scam, but ive had non-paypal spam before with my real email address in the header.

UPDATE!!!- yes, you were correct-i found out it was a recent paypal transaction, but from my previous bank account with another bank....... which I used last with paypal.... in 2006! my recent paypal payment has worked, but their system must be acting up, as the account from 2006 has long been deleted from my paypal account. that surely explains the blank information given in one of the 2 emails i received from them yesterday, but it does not explain as to why I was getting these emails in the first place. I will now be very wary of using paypal, if someone (or paypal) has made an attempt to take my money out of my previously listed bank account i no longer use, for no reason, without my consent, then I dont think Ill be trusting it as much as I used to in the past. This has never happened to me before. I may send an email to paypal to find out why i received a pointless email linked to a long deleted bank account from their system, but Ill probably not get much of a response. the old account (that has little cash in it at this time) that the money was supposedly taken from, is strangely unavailable to view online on the banks website, so somethings up, but when/if it works again i will state if anything has been taken from the account.

thanks
