I have but I can't seem to get in with its, always seems gloopy even when I whisk it in a bit of liquid as a slurry first. I prefer to use cornflour and syn it, but could just be me!

I use it quite regularly but Sirens is right it can make the liquid a bit gloopy if you use too much. It needs to be added very slowly a bit at a time and then whisk. It's definitely not as easy to use as cornflour.

I usually add it at about 1/8 tsp at a time and give a good whisk but generally doesn't need more than about 1/4 tsp. If you go over 1/2tsp that's when it seems to go gloopy.

Main use for me is making gravy - just use a couple of Oxo cubes crumbled in boiling water and then slowly add the Xanthum Gum and whisk like mad.

I was just going to post that Denise uses xanthum gum but she's posted it herself. :D

I've been a bit scared to use it and as we only have gravy a couple of times a week max I'm sticking to my cornflour for now. :)

The best low syn gravy is in the HB steaks IMO and that's just a teaspoon of cornflour for loads of delicious gravy.

Generally, it's not the cornflour that ups the syns but the fat in the meat juices but I can live with that once a week. :)
  • Made waffles for breakfast & sent a photo of it to my bestie, got a message back asking if they were plan! Best spelling mistake ever, they were definitely plan :D

Went to see Witness for the Prosecution this afternoon, was very good, especially as the prosecuting barrister was sitting beside me when the trial was in progress and had to speak to me at various times throughout!

Weather much better today thank goodness, hopefully will sleep tonight.

Morning all. It's finally stopped raining but forecast says if you had rain yesterday you're likely to get some today too!

Looked on line for the local forecast and says there's only 10% chance of rain so I've decided I'm going to get the washing done and out on the line as soon as possible. One load out and 2nd in the machine now so should all be out before 10 o'clock. Hopefully it'll get long enough before we get any rain.

    Today's plan:

B - Fry up - bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans
L - burger & onion in bun with lettuce, tomato, gherkin slices
D - DH is going to BBQ a rib of beef. We'll have roast potatoes, roasted veg, Brussels & peas

HEA - milk - probably won't use full amount as now drinking more water & lemon &ginger tea
    HEB - none
    Syns - burger bun 11 syns:eek:; burger 0.5

I know the bun is high syn and will use most of today's Syns but it's what DH bought to have with the burgers so need to bite the bullet. Fortunately I have enough syns left for it not to be a problem. Just means I can't really have anything else for syns today.

Wow denise, ELEVEN syns!! I could think of a much better way to use 11 syns and I'm sure you could too.:D

I really don't like burger buns so I'm happy to eat mine on their own.

Going a bit mad on eggs today but I fancy an omelette for lunch. As usual loads of veg with dinner so that I have LOs.:)

    Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, HEB toast, 2 fried eggs, HEA milk for drinks
    L: veggie omelette and pickles
D: JO roast pork (on veg trivet) with SW roast potatoes and cauli, broccoli, green cabbage, kale, swede & carrot mash, red cabbage
    Syns: gravy 4? weekend wine:)

I'm going to be very disciplined with the pork and get rid of the crackling PDQ. It's such a temptation.

Change of plan! Didn't have the burger in a bun after all:D. Forgot I'd changed the plan for going away for the weekend but as we came home I looked on the plan on the fridge door to see what we were having and it turned out to be a cheese salad sandwich:D so only a couple syns for the spread!

Only downside to that of course is that it means tomorrow will now be 11.5 syns instead, LOL!

I really must look up that JO pork recipe Maman as you seem to have that quite regularly - only problem being I'd have to have some of the crackling! but only a small piece as it is such high syn but very very tempting.

Just checked on my washing and it's nearly dry so hoping the rain will hold off for another half hour or so and then I'll get it in. Having said that I might have to rush out and get it in as the sky looks very threatening!

I had to put them through the Syn estimator. Couldn't believe it either - I probably won't eat all of it to try and limit the syns a bit! I'll just make sure I've got plenty of onions, LOL!
