Still there bubbs . I went to see the GP. Because I insisted it doesn't feel right he's sending me for tests. My GP likes tests. :( So I'm having a blood test on Thursday and then I'm supposed to fix up a scan or an ultrasound. Not sure about that so I'll ask on Thursday.

Glad you have been, least you can put your mind at ease x

Maman scans are usually arranged by your GP. You shouldn't have to arrange it yourself. At least that's how it works in my area. Our GP does the referral and then shortly after the scan people ring to arrange an appointment.

My GP gave me a number to call for an appointment. It confused me too so I'll ask on Thursday. :)

Thanks for everyone's advice on attending meetings.

I'm still not sure what to do. I feel like I get the general gist of SW, it is after all "eat healthy." I used to manage fine when younger with the whole willpower, but in recent years, it seems to have completely gone.

I now have 1st 12lb to lose. Lost 1lb in my first week, but if I'm being honest, wasn't being too great about the diet.

I'm still in the "getting my head around it zone" where I am counting calories in order to get a sort of idea of where I am going wrong and to find out where a lot of my calories are going. And it is booze mainly (not too much of a surprise).

I think the answer for me is to simply not start drinking. If I do, I don't know when to stop. I know that sounds bad and I am on the give up drinking thread, but if I don't start and get past the initial craving, then I'm fine. Something that I try and limit to Fridays and Saturdays. Sometimes I listen to myself, other times I don't!

I'm finding the whole idea of syns quite confusing as I have no way to working out what something has without going to a group (or committing to the online three month thing). I have the books somewhere, but honestly wouldn't know where to start looking for them now.

I am getting the idea of what other people have on their daily plans and have started making a SW spreadsheet with things that I eat a lot of so I know the syns in them etc. and so won't be repeatedly asking.

Thank you. I think I will continue with the whole writing down of everything. I won't go madly counting everything, but as I've been getting the general gist of how many calories I have been eating, I will try and do the same with how many syns. I.e eat normal (ish) and find out from you lovely people how bad I have actually been!

Then when work is looming and the girls are back to school, focus on it more when I know what is good and what is bad! Although like I said, sometimes it's fairly obvious what is going to be high in syns!

Another one who has switched mainly from wine to gin or more recently, rum as it's even less Syns than gin!

It might be worth you going to a group just once to get the new books and the new member talk where the consultant talks you through the plan using the book. This will have a list of most of the syns at the back of the book. You will also have access to the Syns online for a period of about 8 weeks as long as you register as soon as you get home from group.

You would then be able to look up all the syns of regularly used foods.

This would also help you get your head around the plan rather than the trying to go it completely alone.
