    Hello
Can I join in here please? I’ve been a lurker for a long time but I think there was time to take the plunge!

I’m a 42 year-old man and I’ve been doing slimming world since the beginning of February and I’ve managed to lose about two stone. This is disappointingly slow since I have about another seven stone to lose.

I’ve been working on the assumption that it is best to lose weight slowly though so I haven’t been completely unhappy about it. I can certainly feel the difference. I find the principles of slimming world fairly easy to work with and I don’t usually feel too deprived. I think for me the main thing is to get used to the new way of eating. Once I have gotten used to it I stay on plan quite easily until something happens to throw me off it!

Over the past week I have come off plan almost entirely, after a small holiday visiting family. I didn’t dare go to group last week or this week because I know the result is going to be terrible and I don’t know if I can face it! I feel disgusted at myself for the amount of crap I have eaten. I can’t even say that I enjoyed it. Food is a compulsion for me most of the time, rather than a pleasure.

Does anyone have any strategy for getting back on track after a big lapse? I really could use some encouragement or advice!

    Syn free curry powder mix:

    3 Tbs coriander seeds
    2 Tbs cumin seed
1 Tbs mustard seeds (I use yellow but could use black if you want)
    1 tsp fennel seeds
    1 tsp black peppercorns
    1 tsp ground turmeric
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    1 tsp paprika
1 - 2 dried chillies (adjust to taste - I use about 1 tsp chilli flakes)
    1 tsp salt

Dry fry all the seeds over medium heat. Cook for about 3 minutes stirring often until the mustard seeds start popping and the seeds are golden and aromatic. Tip onto a plate too cool.

Add all the other spices except the salt to a pestle and mortar or a spice grinder (I use a grinder), add the toasted spices and grind everything together into a fine powder. Add the salt.

Transfer to a screw top jar and use as required.

I usually use 1-2 Tbs added to softened chopped onion, along with grated thumb sized piece of ginger, 4 grated garlic cloves and 4 Tbs white wine vinegar, tomato puree and white. This makes a tasty medium curry.

You can vary the heat by adding more or less chilli.

This makes enough for 8 portions of curry.

    Today's plan:

B - baked oat muffins - 40g makes 2. Only ate one along with some grapes, strawberries, raspberries & quark - 0.5 HEB
    L - 2 pea soup
    D - fish pie, peas;

HEA - milk in tea + sauce for fish pie (4 Syns for sauce mix)
HEB - 20g oats; either 1 slice of bread with lunch or an Allen Light bar
    Syns - sauce mix 4

Need to keep syns low as had far too many yesterday. Need to work out how many a day I have left - good job yesterday was 1st day of a new week!

  • Having had an unexpected gain last week, I was terrified getting on the scales last night, smashed it and some:D Was staggered to lose - 3 1/2 lb. Was so chuffed, not only having reversed the gain but finally hit the 4 1/2st loss. The last stone has been painfully slow, so hoping this is the turning point and I can start to lose again. I am 1/2 st from original target, but would like to lose an additional 2, ideally with 1 by Christmas (hopefully more), bearing in mind I will finally be going on holiday in a couple of weeks:D Whatever happens, I will keep ploughing on.

Hope all well with you Chris & Lord P & Sue, may not post as regularly as some, but do think about you

Denise, hopefully you will get to go away.

Beanie, who cares about food as family is important!

    Bubbs - is Bubbs:rotfl:

Wannalot - one of our members has been away and went off plan more than she expected. Decided not to come to group this week as she felt out of focus, so has taken the extra week to refocus for her return next week and I know that she will return re-energised and with more enthusiasm, just write your last couple of weeks off, hold your head up high & return reciting the mantra "I know I can do this!"
A smile costs little but creates much :)

It used to be very much discussed at one time particularly when tins of mushy peas were super cheap. There are many recipes around like this:

    http://www.mumoffivestayingsane.co.uk/2014/09/slimming-world-mushy-pea-curry-recipe.html

Personally I'm not into those chip shop type curries. I like quite hot Indian ones myself and not too gloopy.

Welcome wannalot and well done for posting. I think you're right about losing weight slowly and changing your mindset. IMO those who think of SW as a diet soon get bored because they must be wishing they could get back to 'normal'. When it was normal that made them fat in the first place!:D

Holidays are notoriously difficult for staying on plan particularly if you're not in control of where and what you eat and drink. Doing some quick mental maths, your weightloss since February is just over the pound a week. Have you been giving food diaries to your consultant? I'd wonder if you aren't quite sticking to plan as while it's not universal most men (sorry if that sounds sexist) with a bit to lose, lose larger amounts. :(

Two things I'd suggest and both involve planning. First I'd write yourself a meal plan for the week and a shopping list to go with it. Then I'd write a food diary through the week with every morsel that passes your lips accounted for. If you have time, post your menu on here and we'll let you know if it could be tweaked at all. There's something about having a good plan (for SW or anything else) that I find cathartic. :)

It's chaos here. We have the tiler, the plumber and now a guy digging a trench up the driveway:eek:. The kitchen is inaccessible at the moment. I'm going to go out shortly.... and I may be some time.;) I'll do my food shop and browse a bit and have (SW friendly) lunch out somewhere. Will post later. :)

    Welcome to you Wannalot,

I think what you are saying about the trip away, weight gain and not taking the step to group is real for so many....certainly for this old bird:)it was - I can only say I truly encourage you to bite the bullet and go back to group or an other SW group in your area asap, if you didn't book holidays, do not re join though as your weight loss history will be lost, you can pay 2 weeks back pay and start off again where you left off, plus to be really honest going back after a holiday you do tend to loose the weight when you resume plan.

I learnt the hard way earlier this year that trying myself was not working and putting it off going to a group was just adding the lbs on( I over did it at xmas and then was ill that was my excuse:)) I returned to SW in March different group and after sitting on my own for 2 weeks I gave up, I believed my old consultant had left only to find she hadn't, returned to her group in April and suddenly felt I was back and my weight and determination all started to come back online.

So my honest advice is please go back to a group, if you want to rejoin and forget the previous loss and start again do, or if you want to keep the previous loss and go back to group tell them you want to start off and pay two back weeks.

But sadly the only strategy I can give is the above.

You deserve a big pat on the back for starting your weight loss journey this year and yes we all go of plan and gain, as The Killers
song says "we are only human" finally not the best suggestion - but you mention food is not a pleasure, so one idea is to head to your nearest Iceland and get some SW frozen meals and add yeg to them and have one each night till your next meeting - this way you might feel you are at least trying and do get rid of the guilt. Oh just read this back...not suggesting SW meals at Iceland are bad:rotfl: I had a lasagne couple weeks back - it was really filling.

We are a great bunch on here and just look at Bubbs photo's of her meals gives be ideas.

    Take care

Clubbercise tonight, so I'm going to work off those extra syns last night if it kills me.... and if it kills me, I will have exited this life in a blaze of neon, flashing glow-sticks and a whole bunch of sassiness! ;)

:rotfl: Sary if you're going to go, neon and sassiness is the way to do it!

Gain of for me this week +1lb , I'm sure it was that ice cream from last week (it was worth it though!)

I'm off for the next 2 weeks with the kids so it's going to be a battle to stay on track. I'm going down to the coast to visit my mil for a few days next week and she wouldn't know healthy if I whacked her over the head with a cucumber. So I shall try to make wise choices where possible but I see a lot of fried food and sweet stuff in my near future.

Welcome Wannalot sometimes it's best to face any gain head on, it might not be as bad as you imagine, and even if it is, draw a line and start a fresh and be proud of how far you're come x

Well fine GTQ on reaching 4 1/2 stone you must be so proud.

    Today
B we had an early eye test so popped in to McD as the kids haven't been there for ages, I went prepared with a thin bagel (hexb) with 2 Tsp peanut butter (3) and a banana
D we are having a chicken pasta bake (2 x hexa) bread for dh and dk I shall probably have a salad with mine

    S crisp (3.5)
