You wouldn't get put on a ventilator in ICU if you are 101.ffacoffipawb said:

Thought for the day ... Music to just let wash over you and let your mind wander to faraway places.
Albatross - Fleetwood Mac
Songbird - Kenny G
Tel Aviv - Duran Duran
Conquest of Paradise - Vangelis
To name but 4 that came up on "shuffle all" during MP3 time.
Do you know? Do you like? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
Albatross an all time classic.
One of my favourite escapes is Great Gig in the Sky ( Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon).
Vinyl for me when listening to music. You cannot beat the warmth, richness and depth of the sound. Listening to complete albums is a lost art.1 -

Hard to listen to vinyl from your sunlounger in the garden, without bothering the neighbours!!
Very impressed at the sound quality, still, from our ancient Sony "technically ATRAC" players (it's just easier to say MP3)
Has that been used in adverts? Sounds familiar. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -
Don't you have to have mega expensive equipment to appreciate vinyl though?Thrugelmir said:Albatross an all time classic.

There's good quality kit at reasonable prices though if you shop around. Plenty of secondhand available as well. Though try it first.

Officinados of vinyl...have you had a professional hearing test? Seems daft to spend £££ otherwise as you might not be "appreciating" it as much as you think!!
It's a bit like buying an ultra HD TV, without being checked if you need (new) glasses!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
I pay for Spotify which gives a higher audio quality than the free version. I can sit with my mobile and play almost any music that's ever been produced in seconds. I sometimes play a record on vinyl and then the same one on Spotify. There really isn't much difference. I can't see many people keeping a vinyl collection in years to come.0

I always said I couldn't tell the difference but OH treated himself to new hifi when we bought this house 15 years ago (he had a timely shares windfall). He dragged me to a shop with a test room where they swapped various components in and out - turntable, amp, CD player, speakers. Sadly I actually could tell the difference - it was an expensive day.Sea_Shell said:westv said:

It's a bit like buying an ultra HD TV, without being checked if you need (new) glasses!!He has a couple of old Linn decks and a Rega one - DD uses one of the Linns now.
The hifi is setup as an input to the Sonos setup so we can actually put an album on and listen to it in the garden - although it does sound better direct.
I used to have to list the vinyl as a collection on the insurance till I moved to an unlimited contents policy.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
