    Good Morning everyone.

DH has gone off to Aldi on his own this morning (1 trolley, 1 person policy), which makes sense as he pretty much does the menu planning, and used to do all the shopping on his own when I was still at work.    He's not normally the most patient person at the best of times (can't stand ditherers and dawdlers), but hopefully he'll chill and go with the flow!!   (I've packed him off with a trolley wipe and hand gel too - just hope he remembers to use them!!)

Mentally, i'm forever swinging between the "do what we're told to do, be sensible and everything will be OK" mode and "OMG, everything's contaminated, should I boil my shoes, should I put my shopping in the washing machine" mode.

It's a rollercoaster ride, and it's making me feel sick....can I get off now, please!!!     My chest has felt a bit tight on and off these last 2 weeks, but i'm pretty sure that's just anxiety mixed with the start of hayfever season.   I've still been running with no problems, so can't be anything serious.  I've only got 10 days HF tablets left, and unless Aldi have them in yet (they're on the list), I don't really want to have to make a special trip to the chemist for them.

Anyway, on the financial side, in all the drama, I only just got round to opening 2 more Virgin Reg Savers (#15), and funding them today, after I had a requested payment from my Secure Trust 90 day notice account that payed out yesterday.   So at least cash flow isn't something else to worry about.  It must be so hard for those whose finances are on the brink at the moment.   Our investments may have lost money, but hey, things could be a lot worse.  Blessing counted here!!

    Anyway i'm rambling again....tiz a worrying time.

    Stay safe and well everyone.
It is a strange time. I keep reminding myself that the chances of me and DW becoming seriously ill, or worse, with Coronavirus is very low, but the fearful part of the brain is nagging me a bit. Hope your anxiety symptoms subside soon.

Talking of shopping, I will try a different supermarket this week because the local Aldi hasn't had hand soap for weeks. We still have some but I'd like to buy a couple more to be on the safe side. Luckily we have loads of bog roll as I have a stomach issue which means I get through more than normal so we always keep it well stocked!

Unfortunately the lockdown does mean that the least financially able in society are going to be hit worst, and all the pain from the last 12 years of "austerity"  is likely be repeated now the economy has been tanked.

Successful shop completed.  Just a small one this week, only £26!   They had my HF tablets in now, so yay!!

Still no loo roll.   Apparently it's a bit hit and miss as to when they're getting deliveries of them, and then a pallet doesn't go far.   We've still got 11, so not too worried about them...yet.

Right...sun lotion on, deep breath and relax.

    Keep on keeping on.

The swing in your thinking is a normal response! The ones to worry about are the ones that don't have any concerns however fleeting. The reality hits home at different times. I check in with my mother on my way to work- stand in her garden and have 5 minutes chat then off I go again. It is a 2 mile detour from my journey to and from work so I feel I'm not wasting fuel or adding to the burden of society as if I was to go simply to visit I'd have a 80 mile round trip.

I have found that spending has gone down I simply buy meal deals when working and a loaf of bread for toast at my accommodation. Probably not the most balanced diet but do have plenty of fresh fruit and then proper meals at home. I must add that I have never seen so many joggers or dog walkers out and about. Driving around the York outer ring road (on my way home) I saw only 4 other cars during what is normally a busy time- 8.30 am the other day. So the message must be getting through to people!

I'm not digging them up yet to see!  I'm leaving them to hopefully germinate in time.

In the meantime we have 6 to 11 years of cash, dependent on our ability to spend and inflation.   Hopefully that's enough time for germination to occur.

Today's lunch was Mackerel fillets, with couscous, salad and olive oil. (and yes, another of those rather yummy fresh pizzas found its way into the trolley again)

As for supermarket costs, my Tesco spending is way up- with all the special offers and mutli buys reduced or stopped.

But that is more than made up for by the fact i havent made it into M&S in 3 weeks as the lines have been too long.  So overall spending same or a little less.  Going to attempt M&S again tomorrow, wish me luck.

yes - I have also noticed the exit of the multi buys. Ocado used to warn you if an item had been on offer when you put it in the basket but isn't now - that seems to have stopped. I am waiting to see when Ocado give me the chance to book another slot. I haven't actually been within 6 feet of a non household member for about 4 weeks now and am planning to keep it that way. I had pneumonia a few years ago and it is not something I wish to repeat. I am now shopping for a family a few doors up as she is in cancer remission so their whole house is isolating - keeping myself clear of others can only be good if I am passing on supplies to them (I have a supply of disposable gloves which have been useful).

The feeling of "is it safe to lave the house" is increasing for many, I am sure.  My view is that we will aim to get some fresh air daily, and avoid being near other humans (big empty park next to our house to go hike around).

I haven't been in a big store since this kicked off.     We've started getting a veggie box, and picked up bread/milk & a few other bits from our local stores, who seem okay.   Walk back, avoid touching face, in and wash hands.   I do plan to try to use those local stores more in the future....although I may have a trip to Costco in the next couple of weeks for some items.

Seashell, not sure about your local pharmacy, but ours has a strict policy on people in, all well separated - I would have no hesitation to get stuff there (& indeed, did for a pal who had returned from hols and was 'self isolating' early on)
Curiously we have ended up buying 2 packs of ice-cream and 2 bottles of squash BECAUSE they were on deals - clearly not an essential need, but an offer is an offer!

Actually the news about Boris going to intensive care shook me up more than I expected.
Don't know why - just the possibility of a void at the top felt bad to me.   I'm not a massive fan of him, although I do feel he has an active brain which isn't always the case with politicians, and I personally feel they have done broadly the right things along the way (perhaps a bit slower than I would have liked).   I very much appreciate others have different views, & don't want to turn this political.....but I am glad to read he is not on a ventilator (as I would if it had been Starmer or Sturgeon).

    Stay healthy!
    Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!

I go out once a week to  big store.  Been doing this for years, not just now.  Rest of time i am at home, as our place is over an acre
And have always been the oddball in using antibac/viral wipes when in grocery stores, airports, planes etc.  People used to think i was OCD.  But no, i am just a virologist

Me too. Bad for the country, terrible for his family. I have complete faith that he will recover. though He's a tough cookie.

To add to my anxiety, yesterday I heard the first reports of local Covid deaths. Three husbands, fathers, grandfathers.

Counting our blessings that OH's 30-something niece suffered mildly and has made a complete recovery. She is based in a much worse affected area than our's. We have a garden overlooking fields, local shops that will deliver, and the elderly parents are so far in lockdown that the danged virus will have to crawl twenty metres to reach them.

Our totally screwed retirement plans seem very unimportant and I haven't even squinted at the portfolio for over a week.

    Stay safe all.
