Couldn't lock the front door this morning, it had unlocked ok but wouldn't turn that last bit and let me take the key out, anyway we have a yale so I could leave it locked on that. I thought it might be my key but I tried another when everyone got home and that was the same, I gave it a liberal dousing with WD40 but it still wouldn't work. DH has managed to sort it now and it is working better than ever thanks to all the lubrication.

Called at the fruit and veg shop for apples, tomaotes and onions, so nice to buy food without any packaging. Have been out in the garden and picked strawberries and raspberries which go on my porridge in the morning with still lots to spare for everyone else.

My gym induction was useless. But it is done. Box ticked. Now to ignore all that he said. And if I want to work in amongst the meatheads, then I jolly well will... Ya, boo and hiss to 'conventional wisdom'.

Today I am grateful that I know what I am doing at the gym, for a tough but satisfying workout (ZCUT KB#4), for getting everything we needed for dd's school journey, for dd doing all her own packing, for the tennis, and for the cycling, for sweet chili sausages, for a good chat with big sis about mum.

Huge frog eaten today. I tidied and cleaned one kitchen cupboard. Cannot believe how many different kinds of mustard, chilli sauces and various hot type things we have bought and not even opened. I'm sure the very expensive pickled walnuts seemed like a good idea at the time but why we bought two jars and never used them is anybody's guess (Actually it was Himself. I've put my foot well and truly down now!). I am appalled at the amount of money we must have spent on a whim. It will be used though. Tomorrow we are planning to tackle the larder. Now that is truly scary!!

I'm really hoping that I can spend the very minimum this week but we'll see.

Make an inventory and base your eating around that - if necessary then a 24p packet of cream crackers might remove a few of those pickled walnuts, even if you only make DH eat them:rotfl:. The money might have been spent on a whim, but it can now become the basis of a very cheap (if somewhat odd), week's meal plan. It might even stop DH from ever considering buying walnuts in any form, ever again. Tell us what you find!! I am enjoying your cupboard treasure exploits.I still have a massive amount of dried black eye peas to get through, but I am now down to the last 6 jars of chutney. Thank all the Gods for that! M-I-L is visiting next week, and I am hoping she comes empty handed.

The diesel particle filter light came on in the car. Never ending. Why couldn't this wait till the debts are lower and the emergency fund is full...

Is it a VW? - when mine comes on (I mainly do short/ low speed/ town journeys) I can clear it by driving in 2nd/ 3rd gear and keeping revs above 2500 for about 15 mins (so I have foot on accelerator when in neutral at lights etc to keep it up) x

Get creative in the kitchen. -made another fridge cake to use up some bits and pieces and a sort of banana flapjack-cake to use up several ends of packets. Am determined to work my way through some random things in the freezer this month!

NSDs Low target 3 per week (12/13 for the month) - 2 so far - would have been 3 but I burst a tyre clipping a kerb at less than 10mph on a very, very hot day :( I do have breakdown cover, so they could change my wheel for me but my spare is a space saver, so I needed 2 new tyres the following day (did use tcb, though, and shopped around online)

Live on what is left after paying debt or savings. - CCs paid off and monies transferred to savings. Rent transferred to BTL mtge. Will need to transfer back from slush savings later in month - I know we will run short as we are getting some niggly jobs done and have some other one-off expenses - and have things like 2 new tyres!

Exercise - take advantage of the long days to pack more in. - have been out walking several times (for up to 90+ mins at a time) with OH at a reasonable pace and some gardening - and watering everything using watering cans, rather than hose (more walking and has weight involved :D)

July food days abound Fried Chicken (6th), French Fries (13th), Hot Dogs and Peach Ice Cream (17th), Fresh Spinach Day (16th) and Vanilla Ice Cream (23rd). - will see what we can incorporate :D (have removed non-starters)

O (H2)O Water fun. - ok. No fun as yet but we've all been drinking lots. Water butts used to do garden and are now sadly empty, so will need to use tap water for plants (also saving 'waste' water for them)

Think of those who are ill. - currently have 1 family member very poorly after a stroke (early 40s) and 1 with advancing dementia. Have seen stroke-affected r4elative. HAve been dealing with lots of admin for the dementia-affected relative.

Help those in need. Be a good friend/ work colleague/ neighbour -
am buying some things for work from a shop 30+ miles away as I am going there anyway and it saves anyone else a trip.

Relax. Take time out and remember your children need downtime too.- end of term frantic-ness coming up for DS3 and DS2. DS1 and DD home from uni for Summer, so they can help. I've finished paid work until Sept.

Our Bodies Our Selves. eat well, move more Include a pamper day this month, make it weekly if you can. - still concentrating on my nails at the mo (want them to look decent for DD's graduation) but broke 2 cleaning today :(

Useless and ugly objects need to leave your home. Keep up the clutter clearing. - definitely! - CS bag currently has 3 handbags (largest is more of a beach bag size, so is being used as the carrying vessel for all of this), 1 good tshirt and a pair of curtains. Lots of recycling going out this week, too - and DD has cleared out a few small bits for shoebox appeal. Found another pair of curtains and a mirror for CS. Used up lots of hotel toiletries and recycled bottles

Get out and about. Explore your neighbourhood. What exhibitions and activities are on?- we will be signing up to 'Beat the Street' in aid of DS3's school :) and lots of local walking

Half Year Review. Look again at where you want to be in one year/ 5 years - are you on track or do you need to make changes. - will need to re-visit goals/ targets from Jan.

YoU should take your lunch to work each day and take appropriate refreshments on days out - lunch to work n/a for me this month (2 half days only) - do have DD's graduation, so celebratory lunch that day! Also have 2 work lunches - neither at expensive places and usually soft drinks + 1 course.

Look at each purchase to determine if it is a genuine need or just a want. -

Thankful for: a sunny day, the ironing pile getting finished, DS1's help, watching birds in the garden, twinkly fairy lights

    Hi all:j

A Adventure No adventures today..will be out & about Wednesday though.

G Get creative in the kitchen Fairly creative but DH liked the dish more than I did..

N NSDs Will go for low target as we are on holiday as well as DD this week & another week when she goes away later in the month. NSDs now 3/12

T Take care in the sun Need to be more mindful of this.

L Live on what is left Will do.

    E Exercise:
    Gardening today..

    J July food days
abound , French Fries (13th), Hot Dogs and Peach Ice Cream (17th - No not together), Caviar (18th) Daiquiris (19th). My favourites are Fresh Spinach Day (16th) Vanilla Ice Cream (23rd). Other Ice cream days are available. Use these as a jumping off point to add some summer fun to your meal plan. Will pick a couple of these.

O (H2)O Water fun. Dogs have made holes in their pool, not sure how to get them in otherwise as they are so large. May have an old plastic one somewhere lurking in the shrubbery. Still to locate. Only water is the amount drunk by me. Now have food diary so water can be logged. Not started yet, will start tomorrow. Started with upping water & whilst I didn't drink all that I am supposed to, I did much better. keeping up with the water but not as much as I should do. Dug out dogs pool (half a clam shell type) from shrubbery & cleaned it out, then refilled with water. " dogs ignored it, the other had a drink out of it..

    G Geeks May struggle here.

T Think of those who are ill Both elderly uncles are now suffering from terminal illnesses. Do think of them often. Had email from elderly relative, seems OK. Friend came who has been ill, spent 4.5 hours here so must have enjoyed himself..Thank you email from friend. Will respond to email asking him to come again before hols..

H Help those in need. Will do my best.

R Relax. Have lots of books & projects to do so need to make a time each do to actually DO them. Did a bit of knitting today but need to get organised with projects now. Knitted in car whilst DH had a meeting but forgot book. More TV knitting tonight. Took myself off in the midst of the chaos (DD back from hols) & sat in the quiet finishing some projects. DH has downloaded all the podcasts for my project that I will do on holiday. Mostly be on my own so need something complex to concentrate on.

O Our Bodies Our Selves: Will deffo be doing this & am starting this week with a pamper day. Pampered self by putting on make up etc. Only pampering was a shower & putting some make up on. Plan for tomorrow. Still to do.

U Useless On this, will take some to CS tomorrow. Am still sorting & binning. Got rid of some bags of rubbish for collection tomorrow. CS tomorrow, have books to go & some rags if I can smuggle them past the head honcho.

G Get out and about: No outs today but DH said we are going to plan tomorrow to go out next week . Didn't happen but will ask again tomorrow. Out Wednesday to collect an item & visit another town we don't often get to.

H Half Year Review: Good idea & will work on this. Some progress but much more to do. 3 weeks till hols.

J Just a couple DH already looks like a combo of these two.

U yUo All meals at home today

L Look at each purchase: No purchases today.

Y You should check in daily

Spoiled my NSD as I was short on some groceries and plus I needed to buy milk for the office. Made the most of it by buying some birthday gifts for later this month too.

So, I'm still on 6 for the month.

apple muncher - Yeah many of the inductions are just a tick box exercise and pretty much a waste of time. In one ear and out the other.

    Tell us what you find!!

16 jars of mustard ranging from the very ordinary to the quite exotic! At least I know there is a huge stash of sausage in the freezer to go with that (well some of it anyway). The pickled walnuts will go quite nicely with one of the many types of cheese (also in the freezer) and one of the three jars of honey. I'll let you know about the chutneys and pickles once I've attacked the larder.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

No, it's a Honda. Inadvertently I did that yesterday :D. Was in a bit of a mood and ran the car in the wrong gear up a hill and it did the trick. Later DH told me the mechanic recommended just running it up and down the motorway for a while.

Hi, I'd like to join this thread if that's ok, please. I'm sure I read somewhere that pickled walnuts can be added to casseroles/stews? Maybe trying adding a couple just in case they aren't nice! :rotfl:
