The £9.75 a month for the HD subscription is split between all broadcasters who have a HD service. Sky don't pocket it all.

I don't have a problem with the charge. I do, however, have a problem with them wanting to charge the same again if I purchased a second HD box.

Im quite happy to take out HD, if they knock off the installation charge. What would be the best way of talking them into doing this? threatening to cancel? I was going to go along the lines of the fact my box has now broken for the 3rd time, 3rd new box, and if im getting another one i might as well get HD to make use of my TV, but i refuse to pay the Installation fee as new customers dont have to.

I reluctantly left Sky after 6 years to go to Virgin to save a couple of ££ per month.

I was fully expecting them to offer me something i couldn't refuse and i would end up staying on Sky.

The lady i cancelled with said she wished she could offer me something good but they could only offer me a slightly lower package than i already had for £3 a month for 3 months. I said no thanks, and cancelled.

I was a bit miffed as i loved Sky and deep down wanted them to offer me something i couldn't turn down, but i'm pleasantly surprised with Virgin now anyway so i'm glad i did switch.

My mother has been on sky for 8 years, she has the standard box and has never caused them any problems. When she called up to ask for a Sky+ box, they quoted summit like £100!!

If we call up now then and perhaps threaten to cancel, is she likely to get offered a sky+ box for maybe £49?

if so, what's the best number to ring please? :)

    Hi Aldo
I've just successfully upgraded to Sky+ for £15 inc installation. I didn't know which number to ring, so I emailed Sky through their website (contact us) and told them I wanted to cancel as I was out at work all day and travelling a lot with my job so didn't get to see what I wanted to watch. I asked them for the cancellation procedure and the address to write to for cancellations. They rang me the next day and offered me this deal straight off. They said it isn't advertised on the web, but all the call centre staff know about it. I don't know if he was in the cancellations dept though, probably! Give it a go, it was soooo easy.:j

Good luck, they make you jump through a couple of hoops like asking again 'why you want to leave' and 'have you considered sky+', I just said yes but it was too expensive at £160. Someone else on here suggested to always be nice to them on the phone to get on their good side and it certainly seemed to work for me.

You'll be hard pushed to get HD and free install now the box is £49 I think. Rather than going in all guns blazing, if you just explain you've been with them a while and would like HD but don't feel it fair you pay an install, perhaps you'll get lucky - especially if you have Sky+ already since in most cases its just a straight box swop when the engineer comes out.
