Thanks to all on this forum for the great advice. Called Sky this morning to try and sort out upgrade to sky+ multiroom but they wouldn't budge from £99 +£60 installation.

So I called the cancellations dept direct and said I wanted to cancel due to working nights etc and was offered sky+ for one off fee of £79 inc. installation, and they would also reinstall our standard box into another room at the same time (maybe should have gone for £49 but was happy with that). Also got a discount on multiroom of £5 for 6 months. They are fitting it on Tuesday so fingers crossed!

    Thanks for everyone's great advice.

    great, hope all goes well.
shame we got to go through this messing around.
when we should be entitled to upgraded equipment as loyal paying customers

I signed up to Sky+ HD last week for £99 box and £30 install. Install was scheduled for next Saturday.

Was surfing Tesco Direct when I spotted this: Sky+ HD with 2 months free trial inc. sports and movies and NO ANNUAL CONTRACT for £195. So basically same costs as sky but no contract!

So I rang sky and got the rep to actually go to Tesco Direct website to view the deal as he didn't really believe me. He was a bit gobsmacked so put me through to rententions. Very nice Scotsman gets on the phone and says he can't beat that deal and that I should go with Tesco..lol. :rotfl:
  • seen a leaflet in john lewis for sky hd for £49 when you buy a new tv or 49+60 installation for exisiting customers.

Tried to get this offer from sky but as i have multiroom already, and don't have a bt line it would be 199+60 installation , can't do any discounts.

Apparently the above offer is in selected areas only which i'm not in and the box would not have a guarantee anyway lol

Any ideas how to get the price down or should i go to virgin?!

Are you outside of contract? You could threaten to cancel and get through to rententions. The rententions bloke offered me Sky HD for £75 installed when I told him about the Tesco deal, but I still had to sign a contract, which I really didn't want to do. The extra £125 is worth it to me, but that's me. :)

As the order is with Tesco if i had a problem with the HD Box I would get a refund through them. Someone on digitalspy already confirmed doing this. And if worse came to worse, buy with your credit card for the extra protection. :)
  • well been with them for about 6 years so could cancel, but i cant take up the tesco deal can i as not a new subscriber?

You could cancel and have your partner sign up under their name? My co-worker was so annoyed at the deals they were giving to new customers only, that she cancelled and phoned up again 2 minutes late, and signed up with a different bank account and her full name instead of her knickname (think katherine instead of kate). They put it through without blinking an eye. :rotfl:

Honestly though, I would just call up, say you want to cancel and get put through to rententions, maybe you'll get offered the box and install for £75 too. Good luck!
  • Hi everyone,

I am living with my parents and the sky tv is in my parents name. If my parents were to cancel their sky subscription - they have been with sky for over 3 years - and then if I were to take out sky in my name, then would that mean that I would be classed as a new customer? They are not giving any offers to my parents at the moment, so I was thinking to join sky in my name.

Could someone please tell me if this would work as I really want a sky+ box. Also, if it did work then how long would it be before Icould apply for sky?

    Many thanks for all replies.

Pretty sure they'd check on the address.

Are you aware of the current deal if you upgrade to HD?
