  • Thx for reply, yeas I am aware, however, I do not have a HD tv
Does that mean if we are in the same house then the idea wouldn't work?

At a guess, yeah. Otherwise four adults in a house would be able to obtain four subsidised boxes.
  • I,ve been with sky right from the start, been through4 people asking for a sky+ box for free like there offering new customers but was told no, will have to pay £199. Told them to stuff it and cancelled account. I get freeview on all my tv's anyway, only wanted it to record programmes. So now I'll by a recorder for a fraction of the cost of what sky want. I never really watch much of sky that i dont get on freeview anyway.
I thinks its disgusting that loyal customers are treated this way. Will be saving myself over £450 a year now.
And if i do miss nay chanels I wont be going back to them, will either get top up or look at what virgin offer.
  • Hi just to let you know, my partner called Sky yesterday to try get upgrade to sky plus and was told £99 plus £60 installation fee, tried to beat the operater down and they wouldn`t budge, so I called today got the same response and said ok disconnect me I not interested anymore, they put me through to disconnections, I told the Lady I wanted disconnecting she enquired why, I said I work away all the time and there is no benefit to me having sky if I can`t use it (giving her the opportunity to offer sky plus!) She asked if I had considered sky plus to which I replied yes but it too expensive, she enqired how much I had been offfered it for, I told her 159 to which she laughed and said don`t tell me you got that from our sales department, don`t speak to them speak to disconnections!! She then said give me a min and i`ll see what I can do and came back with £15 for the box and £30 installation and after a bit of haggling dropped the installation!!

    Job done! instalation date booked

Has anyone had any success getting an HD+ box from retentions after threatening to cancel Sky + because their box is faulty (and out of guarantee)?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

I tried cancelling sky a few days ago, been with them for 15-20 years !
Trying to negotiate a deal with them, first they said in email

"We can provide you with Free Line Rental amd Free Evening and Weekend calls by switching your line and calls package with BT to Sky."

    then

"We also have another offer you may be interested in which is Half price line rental for 6 months and 25% of your existing package for 6 months. This would save you over £115.00 in the 6 months the offer lasts."

i asked what else they can offer and they said

"I can offer you a Sky+ box for £15.00 with free installation which would include relocating your present STB if you wished to have this as a secondary subscription. The secondary subscription would cost an extra £10.00 per month.
We would not be able to give you the Free Line Rental or the 25% of your package with the above offer but we can give you Half Price Line Rental and Free Unlimited calls for 6 months.
This would save you £60.00 over the offer period."

After reading through this thread I decided to give this a go as I have been with Sky for years and wanted Sky+ for ages but never wanted to pay £99 plus £60 installation.
I just called the disconnections department (got the number from the Sky website) and said I had got a new job that required me to travel a lot so I wouldn't be at home to watch Sky. He asked if I had thought about Sky+, I said yes but I have never been able to afford it. He then offered it to me for £45 including installation - so I accepted the offer. I'm well chuffed as when I have tried this before they have never offered me less than £99 so I would say to anyone to keep trying as I think it just depends who answers your call.

A HD box originally cost £400. Over time, as you'd expect, it's come down in price. £49 is an absolute bargain. You'd be better off paying £49 and upgrading rather than pay the £65 callout fee. If you try and haggle, I suspect you'd get a free callout and a refurb + box, but I really doubt you'd get a freebie HD box - and money-saving or not, nor should you.
  • ive been phoning sky for a few weeks to see what they could offer on sky+. i was quoted anything from £129 to £169 and I was told i had to have a phone line which would cost me the extra and multi room. Refused these as i find i pay sky enough with the package im on.

was in town then on friday and a guy on the stand could offer me v+ for nxt to nothing.

so phoned sky and advised them i had an offer for v+ for free (little white lie!). said id cancel unless they could offer me something as good as that.

first offer - sky+ box £45 and installation free, same channels and £25 due to no phone line (they say sky+ and hd+ cannot be installed without a phone line but it can but they charge £25 to update the information). All in for £70

    said id think about it.

phoned back and was advised the offer still available but i didnt have to pay the £25 as id already paid it. so took their offer of everything for £45 and will be having it installed wednesday!

    BARGAIN!!!

proves that you can haggle with sky and that persistance pays off!!!!
