will they take down the old one?
I have had a call from a Sky engineer today who is fitting a sky+ box setup tomorrow. I had an old dish and box set I purchased second hand and fitted myself for freesat and explained to him that the 'old' exisiting dish is still up and would he be able to remove it or would I have to prior to his arrival, he kindly said that it would be no bother and will remove it for me but I would have to dispose of it myself.0 -
thanks escapee---just off to order now...have a code from the referral board to get sky+ for £49, no fitting fee, sky will also give me £50 M&S vouchers and also £15 credit to account...seems very good deal to me .
Was there a long time between odering and getting fitted?0 -
Oh maybe mine should have been removed then..although ours is a newer version maybe thats why he left it up?0

I've called yesterday on behalf of my Father in Law as he has the original digital box from about ten years ago, he is on the full package and pays £52 a month without fail. Anyway i called yesterday to try and get sky + for him and the best they offered was £49 installed. Threatned to disconnct but no joy. The operator told me that was the best price he was going to get and they he could offer a higher charge but nothing cheaper - cheeky sod lol!
Do you have any hints on how he could get this cheaper or even free - he has been a customer ever since sky started and has always been on the full package? Please help as this would promote me to bestest daughter in law ha ha!!0 -
My OH works for sky and he says he will always replace any old dish that looks rusty or has faded or if he's not getting a good signal through it. If the dish is relatively new and the signal is fine and customer has not requested one, then he will leave the exisiting dish up. As long as your signal is good, then you dont actually need a brand new dish. HTHOh maybe mine should have been removed then..although ours is a newer version maybe thats why he left it up?0 -
That's interesting.I have had a call from a Sky engineer today who is fitting a sky+ box setup tomorrow. When I had Sky installed I already had a dish on the outside of my house, which the installer re-used. It doesn't bother me as it looked a fairly recent dish and is in good condition.
He said if I'd insisted on a new one he'd have put a new one up, but for health and safety reasons (for example if he cut himself on some rusty metal ) he wouldn't be able to remove the old one, therefore I'd end up with two dishes on the front of my house.
Which is correct?0 -
We have a 80cm dish with 3 LNBs on it for Hotbird, Astra 1 and 2 (not a minidish) and we've managed to get the Sky+ for £49 and free installation too but no-one's been able to clarify what the installer will do in these circumstances. What will the installer do - can he fit a new dual/quad LNB to such a dish or will he just fit a new minidish with appropriate cabling? If so, will we be charged extra?0

They'll leave your old dish. Anything other than an old minidish will get left, they not covered to take any larger or older ones down. So would be down to you to find someone to take it down. The installer will just give you all new dish and wiring as per a new fit.We have a 80cm dish with 3 LNBs on it for Hotbird, Astra 1 and 2 (not a minidish) and we've managed to get the Sky+ for £49 and free installation too but no-one's been able to clarify what the installer will do in these circumstances. Rang up and tried the cancellation ploy to try and get a free (or £49) sky+ upgrade, been with them 2 years but only have a £19 variety mix package.
Told the really nice girl (Claire), sky box had packed up and we only had about £50 to spend on a new DVD recorder but would have to cancel SKY and switch to freeview, immediately offered me SKY+ for £250 !!!!!, I laughed nervously, she went away came back with £110, said no I had around £50 to spend max, went away said she could only do £49 with £30 installation fee, couldn't do anything much more much as she'd like to, told me to buy a secondhand SKY+ box from eBay or small ads.
That's the end of that then, will wait till October when I've been with them 3 years and the AOL broadband's up for renewal, maybe have SKY+ for Xmas 2009.
Nice woman, I believe she'd have helped me if she could, but clearly hands are tied particularly with installation charge of £30.
