  • Well I know for a fact that the engineers know, or have a very good idea, but they are not bothered at all. In fact it probably made their life easier for us as they didnt have to install a new dish. We keep getting the letters to other half saying please come back, but we never left! Just cancelled one contract and entered into a new one. I think in this climate they are damn lucky to have customers and shouldnt be screwing them over - after all, it is hardly an essential and if we choose to spend our hard-earned dosh with Sky they should be grateful.

  • well after 3 phone calls I have managed to get Sky+ to be fitted Monday. I refused to pay £230 quoted On sunday so tried again today! Was offered the £230 which I refuse to pay! Then quoted the box for £99 the £60 install if i take multi room which I also refuse asked to be put through to cancellations and got them down to £49 for a box and £60 install so I took this up because I didn't have to sign up for anything else. Can't wait till Monday!!

I have basic Sky, but have switched off all the packages and are using it as Freeview atm. Does anyone know if you can add packages for a month or two at a time?

30 days minimum on any pack.
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.
  • If you want to get the best deal possible, be polite to the call centre staff. I rang cancellations and was offered sky+ for £150 + £60 install. I was very polite and declined the offer. After only a few minutes of "what I like to watch" etc and haggling they offered a free sky+ box, all I paid was £30 for install.

The guy also offered (I didn't ask for these offers) free call package for a year and half price (£5) multiroom for six months, and he wasn't going to charge extra for installation. I didn't want these offers, so decilned. But he kept them open on my account for 30 days if I decided to change my mind.

I read this in another thread, I think this person works for sky. Just follow his advice.

Because most likely, whether you know it or not, you got a pretty good deal when you yourself were a new customer. Sales advisors can offer certain deals at their own discretion and can do so without informing customers (Eg. One advisor this morning gave an old lady a free sky+ box because she spent the entire call being incredibly polite, friendly and attentive to him). She didn't ask for any deals and wasn't aware that the free box wasn't the norm.

Our advisors gain absolutely nothing from giving customers better deals. On the flipside, they generally gain nothing from witholding offers. Our sales targets are only very gently enforced. If you call up and are quoted full price and the advisor sticks to it rigidly, it is because you are either rude, abrupt, not paying attention or generally making the advisors job difficult. My top tip would be to be nice, feign an interest in the person who is, afterall, only doing their job, speak clearly and don't try and lead the call or bully a better offer out.

Call centre work is often soul destoying, so if you make someone's day a little easier, it'll often be rewarded
Nobody is more persuasive than a good listener.
