I am currently in a 12 month contract expiring in April 2008. I called up today (thought that my contract ended in December for some reason), threatened to leave as I don't get time to watch much tv, and was offered (after a bit of haggling) the Sky plus box for £49 including installation. (On their website the existing customer "offer" is £149 plus £30 installation). I didn't call up their main number - I called 0808 1014438, cancellations, turnaround team. Been waiting a while for a good offer for existing customers so snapped it up quickly.

Don't know if this will help anyone but I cancelled last month after trying to get sky plus box, we have had 2 weeks without sky but got so bored of no sky so I just rang to reconnect to sky and they told me today only special offer for customers rejoining sky, A FREE SKY PLUS BOX AND £50 OF M&S VOUCHERS!
    Check out my post:

Our dream has come true... :D
  • Ok.... I subscribe to SKY with the ordinary box and three packages for £20 per month. I've had it for years and not tied in. I use One tel for my phoneline for around £19 per month, including calls paid for, outside of evenings and weekends (average). I use Orange for my internet access for £17.99 per month.
I called Sky to try and deal for a Sky plus box for £30 (I can't get Virgin in my area yet), and they said it would be a minimum of £159.00 then cut me off!!! How rude.... Anyway, PLEASE advise - how can I get everything sorted out at a reasonable price? Many thanks, in anticipation, Bernie
  • Hi After reading all of these posts I thought I'd call Sky again and try for a free box. despite Sky offering me 3 months at £3 a month they refused to budge on the price of a Sky Plus box and the installation - £49 + £60.

The lady said that as I had only been a customer with Sky for 1 year & 7 months & on 2 packages (costing £17.00 a month,) I wasn't a big spender and the only Sky Plus offer the computer would allow me is the one I've listed above.

I got fed up and told her that I had looked into Virgin deals and would be leaving to go to Virgin. She said there wasn't anything else she could do so I've cancelled my contract with Sky and am hoping that Virgin values their customers a little more than Sky who clearly think that 19 months of being a customer isn't enough!

Out of interest those people who've written & got the deals on the Sky Plus box - are you spending a certain amount with Sky each month or have a minimum of a few sky packages?
  • Word of warning - we had a contractor and his son fit our HD rather than a standard sky fitter a couple of weeks ago (but still arranged through sky in the normal way) and my DH's ipod went walkabout. We're certain it was them that took it, it was on the windowsill by front door - I put it there myself a few minutes before they arrived. No other explanation.

The fitter was dodgy anyway as he tried to take our old sky + box claiming it wasn't ours to keep (it was according to sky), built like a brick out house and generally very unsavoury type, so I'm too scared to report him for fear of repercussions as I've got 2 little ones. It was an old generation ipod anyway, DH is getting a new one for xmas, but still very annoying.

So moral of the story is keep valuables out of sight or keep fitters in your sight at all times!!

 You should definitly report them, my OH works for a sky sub-contractor but they're a big firm and obviously hes governed by their rules and regs(and not a theif!), but I know sky do sometimes use small independant firms too, especially now cos they're busy. You should get a call back from sky asking how they got on, Id definitly tell them about what happened, they've probably done it to so many houses they'd never remember who was who, and if sky have had more than one complaint it wouldn't put it all onto you. Good luck.

Whats the best deals for new customers then?

On their website they've got £99 for Sky + inc installation. With £15 credit and £50 M&S vouchers. Can I beat this?

  • i threatned to cancel as all they would offer me (worcestershire - customer of 8+years) for sky+ was £99 + £60 installation - i insisted that i was going to get a freeview tv then it dropped to £49 + £30 installation then i was told as long as i took out multi-room i could have it for £49 - but for multi-room you have to pay an extra £10 per month right.... so i haggled and got that down half price for 6 moths so all in all i got a new sky+ box fitted - my old sky box relocated for multiroom all for £49 + an extra £5 per month....however, like the guy at sky said multi-room has a 12 month contract BUT if i threatned to cancel they would take it off and i would end up with getting freeview through it! (so i will do that after 6 months!)
    :T
take care though - i got a couple of dumbwits  that have made so many errors i have another engineer coming this week..... so because of my inconvenience i asked for a credit to my account which was granted - £20!.... so im down to £29.:D
