funny how they quote double the installation fee for existing customers, they could post you the box and you could do it yourself in 5 minutes, if you already have a sky+ box, Dave
When my Sky engineer upgraded from Sky+ to HD he spent nearly two hours onsite! He replaced my old dish, moved our Sky+ box upstairs to replace our DD's Sky box, replaced all the older cables, then spent ages in the HD box doing setup - which involved calling Sky to change something at their end and waiting for it to come through.
Certainly some time was spent on moving stuff, but the HD setup bit took him a good 45 minutes, and wasn't just a case of swapping boxes over.

All the enginear did with ours was literally swap the boxes over, took him 10 minutes if that, nice money if you can get it, Dave
Take every day as it comes!!
  • Tried for Sky+ as cheap as poss. Have Sky's package with phone, TV and broadband.

Just called 08442 41 41 41, went through to cancellations, told them I was thinking of leaving based on having an option of freeview, Setanta and a hard drive recorder. Their first offer was a £49 box and £60 installation. I told them that was still more than I'd be willing to pay, but that if they could consider reducing the installation to £30 then I might be swayed. Waited a few mins on the phone but eventually got a yes and so the whole thing's costing me £79 - engineer due next Friday.

    Initial quote £199 plus £60 installation = £259. Haggled amount = £79.

Total saving: £180 - happy enough with that!

can anyone help me. last tenant said she had sky +, and ive noticed ive two telephone boxes on wall in lounge that are linked, plus god knows how many cables ouside house lol, does that mean i can just buy the box?, sky will only do a deal of £49 for box and wont budge on the £60 fitting fee, but do i need it fitting? can you just plug it in?
It is not answering your question really but sky and sky + use different cables (that is why you cant just buy a sky+ box and plug it in ) also is why they charge you to install it. So you need to be definate that it was sky + she had . I would check and then haggle as there is no installation needed if this is the case.
Just had a though, can anyone lend you a sky + box to check?

But you will also need to ring sky to pair the box up to your card to be able to get the sky+ working.
  • Slightly off topic but Sky+HD & Sky+ is now £199 & £60 install however if you take multiroom or phone & broadband then they will reduce it to £99 for the box & stll the same £60 install. HTH
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.
  • My uncle has been with sky for 5 years and has now bought a new HD TV.

Unfortunately, the old box( I guess pre-digital ....sorry I don't have sky so don't know) doesn't work very well with the new TV.

    My question.
    1. will Sky give him a new box and will they need to install and charge for it.

    2. He's paying £ 49.91 for Sky World with Family Pack. I told him I could try ringing them up to get this lower.
What can I expect to get.?

    Any help really appreciated.
    Thanks people.

I just called them to cancel & had every intention of cancelling & just getting my BB elsewhere, I don;t really need the tv cos I rarely watch it.

Anyway, got through to the Indian call centre & explained I wanted to cancel. They passed me to cancellations & I got a lovely Scottish woman.
She offered me Sky+ for £49 + £30 installation, I said I couldn't afford that, which I really couldn't, I had 40 quid left over from my birthday so that's what I was going to use.
She then offered me free line rental & Sky Talk for a year but I'm in a contract with BT so couldn't take that.
She then offered me Sky+ for £49 all in, which I accepted.
I then asked about multi room & she asked if I wanted one of the other 2 multiroom boxes I had turned back on, I said no & I asked if I could have the living room box put in my sons bedroom & she said yeah so it's all being done on Monday :)

i called for my mother the other day and had customer service telling me it was £99 minimum they could do the deal for.
Told them that I had got myself a deal for £60 all in. Bloke didn't believe me so I said put me through to cancellations. Explained to the lovely new bloke how 'd got my deal and that my mother was paying more than me and had been a customer for more years than I remember. Low and behold he offered £49 all in without even any hassle.
always worth a call I say

My parents have been with Sky for years and we want to upgrade - get Sky+ for lounge and then Il have old box in my room on multiroom.

Spoke to nice lady at the Indian call centre today and they wont budge on the £99 for Sky+ and £60 fitting fee.

Im sure from just reading last few posts I can get a better deal so will ring back and try the cancellations dept I think.

Not very sure this will work but want to have a go, we were set to order at quoted price if I can get it cheaper for them Id be well happy!

Ideal would be £49 for box and £30 fitting fee but doubt Il manage anything near that.

Any tips for me like best time to try - I work 8-5 so eves easiest to ring.

Also Id really need to be at home for when they fit it - do Sky do weekend fitting?

    Thanks
