Just did the same as the OP as I really wanted Sky + and it's coming next Tuesday for £49! Daren't go the whole hog though as some have done. Said I had virgin broadband and phone so was thinking of going over to them for the whole package. I'm on holiday next week so it fits in perfectly and it's a brand new box not a reconditioned one. Did have to pretend I knew nothing about it and listen to him explain it all. So I can iron now and watch something I want to ease the boredom!:j Addicted to money saving0

I phoned up this morning because my box wont dial out, so cant get anything interactive or PPV films etc. Was promptly told it would cost me £65 to have an engineer out to repair or replace the box. I said I'd call back as it was to expensive. I've already put up with a broken box for years putting off the engineer costs. After reading this thread I phoned back to cancel saying I was changing to freeview because I'd found a freeview box with 40GB HD for under £40 online and although I would lost a few channels it would be lots better than £65 for a basic sky box. Straight away I was offered Sky+ with installation free of charge. It's being installed Monday morning *fingers crossed*
Phone call took around 10 mins.

I phoned up a few weeks back because our old non sky+ box was on the blink and said I was going to cancel. They just said "Fine". I asked if there were any deals they could offer me to keep my custom - "Nope - Sky+ plus fitting is £179".
Hung up, phoned them back and gave the same spiel to someone else - this time they offered me the box for £99 and free installation, then when I hesitated (bluffed) they gave me the chance to take every channel - movies, sports etc - for £12 a month until end of Feb.
Which I took them up on!:T No free box, but a good deal in the end.0 -

I joined Sky about 3 months ago. I have just Sky TV. Variety and Sports mix. I am thinking about Sky + but couldn't afford it. So I am going to ring that number and give it a go.
You are probably still in a contract then, so less likely to work.
Do Virgin have their own Sky + version, as it were? Sorry if thats a silly question. Just so I have some more ammunition, if needed.
They have a V+ box, one off fee of £150 last time I looked (was a few months ago though). As cable is not available in my street, I haven't looked into it too deeply, so I don't know if they do very good deals on them or not.0 -
Oh dear it never works for me. When I said I wanted to cancel movies as I didn't have time to watch them they took my cancellation!! It was the same when they had an offer before for something I can't remember what I said I wanted to cancel the whole lot and they took my cancellation then as well!travelover0

hi there,
just phone them up again, and tell them that you were frustraited at never catching the movies etc, and that actually only wanted to reduce the package! you'r not going to see them face to face, so no need to feel silly! you never know, they might offer you an even better deal as a new customer!!!!!:rotfl:i keep losing weight, but it just keeps on finding me!!!!!!:D0 -
Offer still working, spoke to a very pleasant young man and was eventually offered a brand new Sky Plus box for £49 with free installation.
Could have had a free box if I had so wished but when I asked what the difference was, they said the free ones are classed as Grade A boxes, which means they have been refurbished.
Thanks to original OP.0 -
Hi
Looking for some advice - not sure if this is the right place.
I have just called Telewest to give them notice as I want to move to sky, told them the truth saying I wanted sky plus and miss sky one etc. They told me that unlike them Sky charge if their is a fault with one of their services which could be upto £65! Also if my sky + box stops working I have to pay for a new one, where as Telewest would replace free of charge. Is this true, or are they trying to stop me going to sky by telling me fibs?:j BABY A :j0
