I have just called, and got Sky+ for free!!
I have been with Sky about 8 years, on full package minus the film channels, sky talk unlimited free calls (free for 6 months as I re signed-up to sky sports a few weeks ago).
I got put through to cancellations, and was very nice to the lady, explained that I was thinking of cancelling. She asked whether it was because I was missing a lot of shows, I said yes, due to shift work etc. She asked if I'd considered Sky+, I said I had, but I spoke to someone the other dau (this is true) and they had said it was £210 which was too expensive. The other agent had explained they couldn't reduce that price because I couldn't have multi-room (due to having a shared dish).
The new lady offered £49.99, which I said was great, but a little too expensive, and BTVision were offering recorder box for free, with free Setanta (and I only really watch sports). She then offered free, which I obviously accepted, with free installation, on a saturday.
Great! Thanks to all the posts here!
I can't get the full Sky+ benefits as I'm on a shared dish (can record, pause, rewind etc, but not record and watch a seperate channel), but still very happy, and the guy the other day said the Sky engineers were pretty badly paid, and may install the second feed for me for £20 or £30. I'm gonna try this also...0 -
Apologies if this is a stupid question but I just rang Sky in order to test this out and got absolutely no where!! The lady looked at my account details and said I couldn't switch because I had only signed up to their Mid broadband service in April this year (have been a Sky TV customer for a few years but signed up to Talk and Broadband this year). I said my main problem was not being able to justify the TV package I am on due to missing loads of TV etc and so I was looking to move to BT in order to take advantage of the free Setanta deal and recuded costs and all she offered was to reduce my viewing package (I have 4 mixes and Sports). My argument was that I still wanted sports and that with BT I would be able to still watch Premiership football with the Setanta deal. So she basically said no worries and went to put me through to broadband cancellations at which point I got nervous and hung up whilst on hold!!
Anyone know what I can do as I really, really want to get Sky + but no way could afford it for the normal cost of the box and installation.
Any advice very gratefully received!0 -

received a flyer through the mail offering free sky+ and installation if I re-subscribed to them
small print states offer only for former customers and recipient of the flyer only
but for those of you thinking about going back, it's worth a phone call !
I got the same offer on a postcard 2 days ago and I told a friend my gd news. What did he do? phone up. threaten to leave, pleaded credit crunch, mentioned BT & Virgin who give it away for free and now he tells me he's got free sky plus box, free installation and free subscription. ????
Anyone else offered free subscription??
Little bit dubious about the last one.......0 -

Yeah, you need to actually speak to cancellations, the normal customer service agents won't do the deals!
Also, you have to give 30 days notice, so even if they call your bluff, you have 30 days to cancel your cancellation!0 -
Thanks for your response but when they put me through to cancellations - I ended up through to broadband cancellations rather than TV as they've said I'm tied in to the 12 month broadband contract I started in April. they said I can't cancel that but the problem is you can't have the broadband without a TV package so it seems like I'm in a bit of a catch 22 with this. It's annoying because I keep seeing all the poster for the new customer deals and I'm stuck here paying £48 a month using a !!!!py old box!!!!0
