Hi Bims - we are on the exact same as you and all they would offer me for another box was £75 for the box and £60 for the installation. They would not budge on this and I said no, I was not paying £60 for them to change one wire from standard to Sky+ sub.
Could you cancel and take another sub out in the name of your partner? You could get the cheap box and installation and then ask an independant to come out and install the additional box in another room. my husband can do it and says it is easy so he can do it. Then you have to call Sky and ask them to 'purge the veiwing cards' for the 2nd box you have. I asked about this as I said I might as well get a box from eBay!0 -
thanks a lot for that advice.will see about my husband subscribing.I found another forum saying you could get hd for £75 is that true?0

hi, sorry if this has beena sked, but couldnt find the answer anywhere:-
I have been with sky for 20months now, but my contract was renewed for another 12monhs alst october due to taking there broadband package. Has anyone got sky+ for free whilst still under a 12month contract? Or do you have to be out of this period before they offer it you?
Thanks :beer:aim to be debt free in 2009.....total so far (24.01.09) £940.45/£15089:eek: ..on my way :money:0 -
Have been with sky for about 7 years now - phoned on Monday and played dumb asking how to cancel cos of having to tighten belt etc - chap then starts talking about line rental, then broadband. I asked about sky + and said to chap whats the best deal you can do if I take all options - he said £25 to install broadband and £49 for sky+ .
Ummed and aahed a bit and said I'd have to speak to dh cos that was too much outlay up front... Then he said so if you dont get a better deal then you'll cancel right?? Of course I agreed with him - he said hold on a minute- prob went away and played patience on the pc - and came back and said all for free!!!!! Result sky+ being installed tomorrow afternoon- and free broadband (were payiny £18 pm) and a bit cheaper line rental.
My advice play the girly card and act a bit dumb.... That sounds sexist but worked in my case. :beer:0 -
They offered it for £49 even though you were under contract? How long left at the time?
And with your new deal are you tied to a new 12 month contract?

Hello all,
Fist off, many thanks for the advice given here, its just saved me £210!
Called Sky this morning (been Sky customer for 4 years, basic family pack, no broadband, no phone packages). Spoke to customer services and asked them how much they would offer Sky plus to their existing customers. Was told it was "£150 for the box and £60 installation". They would not budge on the price unless I took out multi-room or a broadband package. The lady explained there are no offers other than that.
I then called the cancellations line straight after. Said that "I wanted to cancel my subscription because I just started working nightshifts and daytime TV sucks". The guy laughed and said "I totally agree". I said "It's a shame that I miss all the good shows at night" and "this is the reason I want to cancel". He then said "Well, we have this product called Sky plus that allows you to record your TV shows whilst you are at work". I was like "Really?! That sounds great, but I expect that costs a lot". He said "Its £150 plus £60 installation". I said "I couldnt afford it and please cancel the subscription". He then put me on hold and came back to say " Wow, a deal has just this second been added to my screen that allows me to give you the whole lot for free!". JACKPOT! Obviously I snapped this deal up.
They are fitting it on Wednesday.
Its such a shame they dont offer it free straight way, as it would be a much better customer service.
Thanks again guys!0 -
That's great news, but I can't understand why they are allowed to run their company this way. Surely they must know that customers are taking this route - or even the one that I took, cancelling the husband's contract and re-booking in my name - where is the logic and business sense from Sky's point of view? It's a shame we have to resort to devious methods, and all to subscribe to their service after all. The engineers are well aware of what we doing so I can't believe the admin departments don't know also.
Saying that, the £30 I paid for the installation was well worth it, I am really happy with it and as the ad says, wonder how I did without it. It's so much easier to record programmes now. Maybe they will wake up soon and offer it to everyone for free.0
