I called sky yesterday morning to tell them I was considering cancelling and to find out how I would do this. When I told them (the truth) that I felt £38 was steep compared to the amount of tv I actually watched. I was asked if I would consider sky+ to have more control over the tv that I watched. When I replied that I had but didn't relish cost, I was offered a sky+ box installed for £49. I am kicking myself for not accepting there and then, I wanted to speak to my partner first so told the advisor that I would call tomorrow. She explained that tomorrow the offer may not be available so I told her that I was really up for it and would call back that evening..
So I did call last night after work exactly as discussed and the lady (different to first) I spoke to refused to honour the deal and said I would need to pay £99!! She said these offers can change in an instant but there was no way they would let me have the box at £49 I was totally shocked. Even when I pushed further for disconnection, she did not move.
I have to be honest, I feel really let down by Sky. I haven't been there longest paying customer but have always paid my bill, been tollerant of there phone calls at inopportune moments and been tolerent when the box has broken and they've sent unorganised engineers. I really do feel now quite compelled to leave them especially after a third call this morning. I rang again and explained what had happened and how I felt about it. I wasn't at all rude or abusive. I told it straight and was bold with the fact that I was disgruntled, but still the response from the agent on the phone was that I would disconnect before I got my discounted sky+ box.
I'm a little unsure of how to proceed now. Of course, I don't really want to leave sky, they have the best package, albeit expensive. But, I do feel really let down.
Is there any way I could push this further with sky? Or should I just accept that they've marked my account with the offer refusal and that's the way it will stay?...0 -
We got Sky+ for free!
The best thing we ever did! Wife called them, and said she was looking to cancel due to me working nights and missing good shows. The man asked if she'd heard of Sky+ to which she said yes but it's too expensive. He said she can have it free as she has been customer for 4 years. Good times!
We pay £19 a month for 4 mixes, and have our telephone and internet through BT.0 -

Complete and utter caledonian intransigence for me too.
The bloke i spoke to was a real pro. Even told me that if i cancelled and registered again as a new customer at the same address to get a better deal, that theyd nail me for that too. Maybe he didnt lke me, maybe his woman was giving him gyp, but i felt like i'd spent ten minutes on the phone with CID when i'd finished.
Im normally quite good at blagging these things but i got absolutely nowhere.
They're cancelling at the end of the month.....
Been with Sky for 7 years this time and a good stretch before that, at all times taking the whole sport package. I was basically told that everyone on these sites is lying about the deals they get. Its clear Sky have introduced a procedure to deal with the heat generated by sites like this. They simply would not budge with me. I dont live in a cable area, and im sure they know this is a factor. Id love to see what comes up on their screen after youve entered your phone number...
The house where i have the subscription is my dads place, i dont bother with it where i live, Freeview and Sopcast soccer does me fine. If he was more tech savvy, id have him watching football on the net and Sky could shove their subscription sideways. Alas, he is not, so i will reluctantly be cancelling the cancellation in time for the test matches against South Africa.
For the record, i dont believe anyone on here would be quite so sad as to lie about getting free telly. Would they??:eek:0 -

Do not give up. Email them about your disatisfaction and I am sure you will get somewhere. After two phone calls and not getting anywhere I then e-mailed and when they called back they offered me free sky+ immediately. I did not threaten to cancel, just said that as a 9 year loyal customer I believe that it is discriminating to offer great deals for new customers but nothing for the loyal customers who have spent a lot of money.
You will find the email address on the sky website.I am only trying to help :rolleyes:0 -

dont bother with the emails on the website, go straight to the top customer service by sending an email to james.murdoch@bskyb.com tell them you have been a customer for years and dont think its right that new customers and certain existing customers are getting free upgrades and you are wanting to cancel. Tell them that you would stay a customer if they upgraded you to sky+. They are really good, I had problems in the past with broadband and the anti virus software not been able to use with vista and they gave me credit on my account to go and buy some.
Emailed them last week as I had been fobbed off by customer service when asking for an offer on HD and was forced to cancel, they couldnt do anything on the HD price so I said can you offer me a discount to stay. No was the reply but we will give you two months viewing credit whilst you decide what to do. A friend also got credit for having to pay £50 for sky+ which meant that it didnt cost him a thing.
Keep at them and you may be shocked at what they offer.0 -
I called and said that was going to cancel. Asked me why and said that Bt had offered me free v box and deal on broadband and calls. I have broadband and call with sky at moment. Advisor went through all options with me and offered me 49 box straight away. Didn't try to hold out to get it free as wanted it for ages and was happy with 49.Yearly Grocery Budget - £100.77/ £3500. January Treats Budget - £11.80 / £100.0

Ok guys, here's my story!
Cancelled my contract last year and was using freesat.
Wanted to re-instigate my 2 mix subsscription and read about this forum and deal.
Got a referral from the ref board for recommend a friend and rang Sky quotign the offer.
He offered my free Sky plus and an installation price of £30 - plus free £50 M&S vouchers for me and the referrER.
Took a new contract in a family members name.
So all in, a good deal...I was going to pay them £17 a month anyway - now I get Sky+ (new dish and box free)!
I'm chuffed.0 -
Wonder if they are likely to be more sympathetic to callers if you say you are off to freesat.
(I assume the im333 was watching the FTA channels and not the new freesat service)
Why did you need a new dish by the way? Thought they used the existing one with an new LNB0
