    big thanks to kayleigh.
got half price package for 12 months plus sky plus box for £49,was going to be £75 but i needed multi room and this reduced the box by £25.
not actually for me but for my mum and dad so there well pleased.
one picky issue they wont budge on the multi room,i tried 6 different operators and they would not budge.
    thanks again kayleigh............
  • thank you so much!
rang sky, told them i wanted to cancel my contract a) to save money for xmas, and b) to stop everyone in the house arguing about what to watch. got offered sky+ for 49 quid, but reminded the operator that i was trying to save money, not spend more.
he put me on hold for two minutes.
result: completely free sky+ being installed for free on thursday this week.
    again, thankyou so much x

    Stupid Sky!

Gave them a call after reading everyones posts. Asked when my contract ended, really rude advisor said "What do you mean contract?!?!?" Like i'd asked the most stupid question in the world!

When I explained we had been with Sky for 5 years on the maximum package but then took Broadband out, then I just wondered when the new contract was due to end?

Very abruptly I was answered "March! You have to call in February to cancel!"

I guess they are only nice to you if they are in real threat of losing your business

  • I have been out of my contract on SKy + for a few months and thought I would phone them to see if I could get a some sort of deal for renewing a 12 month contract - well I ended up calling 4 times. The first 3 times I hung up as the people I was talking had no idea and weren't interested (if you get through to an Indian call centre just hang up as you will be wasting your breathe). Then on the 4th attempt i asked to be put through to cancellations where I spoke to someone who knew what they were talking about AND on Saturday I will be receiving my new free SKY+ box and free installation.

Moral of the story - dont give up and keep trying - phone until you speak to someone who understands what you are saying.

Thanks to everyone who has posted the info it was very useful.
  • Just phoned, got English woman - told me £99 plus £30 installation. Phoned again got Scottish young man, same thing. I am on Full Package, been with Sky for years. Was told they could give reduction if i took BB/Sky - What am i doing wrong, just want Sky+ at £49 or FREE
  • Same result for me yesterday, not interested in doing a deal as they have done for others. Going to try again.

Not threatening to put a tiny dent in Murdoch's profits is I believe the answer :)

Call them back and tell them you are thinking of cancelling. Frankly if Sky had the common sense to offer all their customers Sky+ for £49 instead of making them jump through hoops they'd have an awful lot more custom.
    "Whatever happened to string?"
  • Just tried again and still no joy. Wanted to put me through to sales to buy a new system but 20 min queue so I said I would ring back. Must not be convincing enough
  • This is a long post for those of you that have been putting this off (like I did) or afraid you might get cancelled:

Its not in my nature to "embellish the truth" (lie!) and I was also afraid Sky might cancel me instead of giving me a free sky plus box so I put this off for a while as I'm sure a few lurkers on this thread are also doing.

Anyway, I called up on the freephone number in the original post and ended up speaking to a emotionless foreign gentleman. I didnt get a good feeling about it right from the start but maybe it was because I was nervous. I told him I had been put on a permanant 2 - 10 shift at work so couldnt watch any programmes I wanted. There was no craic or effort from the guy to keep me as a customer, he basically said "It takes a month for your cancellation to take effect, your cancellation date will be 23rd December" This was not what I wanted to hear so I just hung up hoping he hadnt finalised anything.

I called straight back (to try again and also hoping not be told I had already cancelled!) and got put through to a chatty Scotsman (good feeling right from the start) who I gave the same excuse to. He straight away offered the Sky plus box for free and i'm pretty sure he knew what I was playing at anyway since he said "I dont know if you are here by luck or by choice but I can give you a free sky plus box... etc"

I was of course delighted and after the call phoned straight back and got one for free for my Dad too, who's been a sky customer for ages! I was obviously more confident second time round.

    So in summary:

    1) If you call up and get a bad feeling or you dont seem to be getting anywhere just hang up.... they cant tell if its a line fault!

    2) They wont cancel you if you hang up as I was actually told my cancellation date before I put the phone down!

    3) Call straight back until you get someone you like and feel confident talking to. Its a freephone number and they dont seem to put a record on your account that you have just unsuccessfully tried to cancel.

    4) They will be getting hundreds of cancellation calls with this excuse every day, so even if they do suspect you are fibbing, (I'm sure they wont care) if you stick to the story you will be fine. I suspect its not beneficial to them if you actually cancel, so the operator wont get into any bother from their boss unless you blatantly admit you are trying to get a free sky box!

    5) If they offer you a Sky Plus box for £49, I was going to use the excuse that had they asked on any other month I would have considered it, but in the run up to Christmas, I'm skint so cant afford it. This seems to have worked for others on this thread to get the box for free.

I hope that answers some questions you may have, I was apprehensive myself before trying it but at the end of the day I have just got Sky Plus for free and saved myself £130 or so (Twice!)
  • Wooohooo, thanks for this just rang them and got it for £49, did try and get it for free as I actually don't have a debit or credit card but they said I could use someone elses, but i don't care have just saved myself £130...yeah :j !!!!

..must admit though did ring a few times and hung up until i got through to the English call centre.
