My thought is simply you are going against your late Uncles wishes.
He had his reasons and made his choice to instruct the will be written as it has been.
It was the last will and testament, I assume he was of sound mind when he made it, if so then going against his wishes in my mind is wrong. Clearly he had his reasons not to give money to your sister, you may know his reason you may not - but I think this thought should be said clearly to your sister - that you as not going against his wishes.

I don't think OP has any obligation at all to give any ofher inheritanceto anyone else, but I disagree with your reasoning.

Uncle made a will and left the money the way he wanted to. The money was then distributed in accordance with his will.

What OP, or nay other beneficiary does with it after that is entirely up to them,. It is their money, and if the ydecides that they wanted to give it away, it;'s not remotely disrespectful or inappropriate fo them to do so., and unless he left a letter expressing a wish that she doesnt give any to her sister, then it isn't going against his wishes.

I'd have told her I'd already put it all in my penson fund and so couldn't get it out until I retired even if I wanted to! :D
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Your sister wants you to give up £50k now so that she has a reasonable expectation of inheriting 1/8th of it in future (half of your mother's quarter). That doesn't seem a well thought out plan of hers to me!

This is exactly what struck me when I read the OP. The only way it makes sense to me is if the sister is deliberately trying to penalise the OP. (Maybe she is!)

Nobody here really cares, although clearly some enjoy the chance to dish out their opinions on family dynamics!

Make your own decision rather than making a mountain out of a molehill. Ultimately you'll do what you want to do, so why waste everyone's time agonising to no good purpose?

On the contrary - sounds like the voice of sanity to me. Has it occurred to anyone that the poster might just be winding people up? If the sister is so keen on getting a share, why would it be split four ways rather than just asking for a 'donation' from her sibling now? Maybe one of these fake MSE 'dilemmas', which are never anything of the sort.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

I think that you should keep it OP

Your Uncle wanted you to have it. Anything other than that, would be going against his wishes

You really do not have to explain anything to your sister, at all.
The opposite of what you know...is also true

If nobody replied to anything in case it was fake the forum would be dead and a lot of people would get a lot less money saving done!

    Nowt as queer as folk.

Although its hardly strange for people to begrudge others or be jealous because someone else has more than they do. More par for the course. Especially with siblings.

"Well since you're rich enough to earn over £50,000 per year* you must have other money that you could lend me as I'm in a tight spot."

Never lie. Just say no. Lies breed more lies, you will get found out, you will then be the bad guy.
