    Good plan.

I suspect they will offer you one of those AA reroutes via DFW or ORD that you can see. Perhaps make a note of your preference and then one you get through to BA the change can be made quickly.

    Enjoy your cruise.

Eventually got through to the call centre. Was Offered to move the 9 sept cancelled flight to 7th. Explained that we also wanted the outbound moved 2 days earlier to give us a week’s holiday and was out on hold then cut off. Eventually got back to speak to someone a few hours later and that flight had no spare seats. They have managed to reroute us onto Iberia with 2 changes, but keeping the same departure date.

how did you eventually get through? And twice? i've not even managed to get into the call holding part yesterday and today
  • We are impacted. Due to fly back 9th Sept from Milan to Manchester via Heathrow. We have to travel that day as attending Monza Grand Prix on the Sunday (the whole purpose of the trip - 60th b/day present for my husband) and we need to be in work on 10th. Got through to BA customer services but they couldn’t offer anything suitable. CAA says they need to find us an alternate airline and pay but they didn’t offer this on the phone. If I book alternate flights with another provider can I claim a refund?

Waited til the afternoon, took 3 calls to get to the wait, then that call got cut off mid conversation. Second attempt around 4pm and was on hold for around 20 minutes. We do have gold tier, that gives us a supposedly better phone priority via a different number.

Keep trying you will get through and have in mind what you want eg to cancel, change flight dates, re route etc it helps if you know what you want; there is little point just berating the operator.

I understand that guidance at the moment will allow for rebooking on some other one world airlines.

I'm caught out by this too. We are going on holiday to Malta, flying out with Air Malta but back with BA (because the times of the flights suit us better than using the same carrier both ways). Got the midnight e-mail telling me our flight from Malta was cancelled, which I read at about 5am.

Naturally, I immediately checked what other carriers had available flights - Air Malta is really early, which is why we didn't use it in the first place, but Easyjet has a flight only 15 minutes away from the time of the BA one. Booked it, at a cost of over £300 - because presumably almost everybody from the cancelled BA flight would be trying to get a seat on the Easyjet one, and I didn't dare hang about.

Went to the BA site and filled out the Refund Request form from Manage My Booking (as suggested in their e-mail). Was given no information as to how or when it would be paid, and - most suspiciously - received no e-mail confirmation. So I replied to the midnight e-mail, saying I had requested a full refund; of course I got no reply, even though it didn't bounce.

Then, at 5:30pm or so, came the other e-mail blithely saying that the flight wasn't cancelled after all! Well, I don't want two simultaneous flights; I want my money and Avios back from BA, and I want them now. But of course it is impossible to get through on the phone - every route I try, I get cut off because they are too busy. I did manage to raise a formal complaint, which got an e-mail acknowledgement, but who knows when anybody will look at it? By the time I am in Malta I won't want to be phoning BA every ten minutes; but I suspect that when I get back they will say I am too late because they were expecting us on the original flight!

As far as I can see, I did all the right things. My only option now would be to cancel the payment to BA on my credit card - but it was minimal, since the bulk of the payment was made using Avios. (Had I had any option at all, I would never ever had let BA take over all my Airmiles/Avios which I had collected so carefully over the years! But now I am stuck with them if I ever want to use my miles.)

Sorry, just letting off steam here. Hassle always seems slightly less in the company of others who are experiencing the same thing.

EasyJet allow you to cancel, minus a small admin fee, up to 24 hours from booking. Can you quickly cancel the new EasyJet flights that you booked?

To be quite honest, I wouldn't trust BA to have their plane and pilot in place the day after a strike day. We don't want to be delayed for hours on end - and if we were delayed until a later day, our travel insurance would expire, which (since we are elderly) would be very risky. No, I want a refund from BA; in these particular circumstances I feel that Easyjet is actually more trustworthy!

Either people are now giving up on ringing BA, or BA have extended their telephone queuing system. After ten more tries this afternoon I actually got into the queue. After nearly an hour, my phone (cordless landline) ran out of battery. So I re-dialled on my mobile, into which I have plugged the charger, and actually got into the queue at the first attempt. I have now been sitting here for another 50 minutes listening to somebody who sounds like Lucy Worsley informing me that "a wepwesentative" will be with me as soon as possible!

    Hi All,
As per the title, I've booked a package with Expedia (flights and hotel booked at the same time) which includes BA flights. Not going until October, but just want to be clear who to contact, if the strike dates effect us, Expedia or BA?
    Thanks

MollyR, if you have booked a reward flight you can cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a nominal fee and get a complete refund of your Avios and taxes.

Tabby_cat, if you’ve booked a package then Expedia are responsible.
