Thank you worldtraveller for creating this thread and your regular updates. Like many others, I have been reading it with interest.

I looked at the BA website this morning and noticed that there was no mention of the proposed walkout by Heathrow staff on 23 and 24 August. Does this mean that (like the BALPA strike) it is unlikely to happen?

    Thanks

    Thanks Nile!

The Heathrow Airport staff industrial action which was due to take place on the 23rd & 24th August has been "postponed".

    Heathrow

However, your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not it will happen at a later date. :)

    Ditto

I was holding my breath at the end of last week, when I read on Flyertalk that the talks had broken down again, but both my outgoing and return flights are now within the next 14 days, so I am breathing a little easier now :)

I'm breathing a little easier now my outward flight is within 14 days. If my return from the sun is a little delayed, I can cope.

Usually I’d feel the same, but on this trip the return is the most important for various reasons.

We have been working with the pilots’ union, BALPA, to reach an agreement on pay.

Unfortunately, this afternoon, the union announced it will strike on September 9, 10 and 27, causing serious disruption to the travel plans of thousands of you, our customers.

We are now making changes to our schedule.

If you a flight booked with us on those dates, it is likely that you will not be able to travel due to BALPA’s strike action. We will be offering all affected customers full refunds or the option to re-book to another date.

We’re very sorry about the impact BALPA’s action will have, and we’ll do everything we can to get as many people as possible away on their journeys.

    Ouch.

As talks and time had passed I really thought Willy and Alex had found and been shaking the magic money tree and that this dispute would have been settled.

    Thanks for the updates.

My flight home has been cancelled.

Chances are BA will offer to fly me home 2 days later, the question is whether they will pay for the hotel for those 2 days. They say a limit of £200 a night, that really won’t be enough for us to stay in the same room or even in the same hotel. I read that EU261 doesn’t limit the cost....not going to do anything for a couple of days and see how the land lies.

If BA could get me home via USA that may be worth considering.

The gap between BA's position and Balpa's is about £5 million

Yet a strike will cost BA £40m according to their own figures.

We are on a BA flight to JFK on the 8th September, the day before the strike, but have just had an email to say our flight is cancelled. They offered a refund or a rebooking, and we have opted for an AA flight the same day, just half an hour later.
So no real inconvenience. Just glad I was able to act immediately and get first choice of available alternatives. If I'd opened the email some time tomorrow it could have been a different story. Our hotel on our first night in NYC is non refundable
