Has anyone managed to get in contact with BA? I had the your flight is cancelled then it isn't email. I'd applied for a refund as soon as they sent the cancellation email then booked with someone else. Does anyone know if a booking would still be valid even if a refund was applied for? I never actually got an email confirmation

Have you looked under Manage My Booking (MMB) on the https://www.ba.com site to see what the status is of your booking/refund?

I cancelled too, and am not impressed with either the lack of communication or the delay in the refund. Payment is taken immediately, so it's difficult to see why it takes four weeks to return it. Not everyone will have spare cash to make an alternative booking without the refund.

I took a screenshot when cancelling - just as well as there has been no email confirmation and it took two days for the cancellation to show in MMB. Before that, both the booking and the request refund button remained. Because the refund button remained I was concerned that the refund wouldn't be readily forthcoming.
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is questioning British Airways after it enraged thousands of travelers by telling them their flights had been canceled after its pilots announced they would strike for three days next month.

Last Friday, the BALPA union said it would strike over pay on the 9th, 10th and 27th of September, prompting the airline to tell passengers by email that flights on or around those dates had been canceled.

The emails led to widespread confusion and anger as many people rebooked costly flights unnecessarily.

The CAA is exploring whether British Airways, part of the International Airlines Group (IAG), failed to comply with European rules about airline passengers’ consumer rights.

It said in a statement: “We have been in contact with the airline to determine what has happened and are seeking an explanation to confirm how it complied with its rerouting obligations to consumers.”

  • British Airways has rejected a last-ditch proposal from pilots' union Balpa to re-start negotiations aimed at averting strike action.

BA pilots are due to strike on Monday and Tuesday over a pay offer they say is too low.

Balpa said it would call off the strike if BA would discuss a new proposal outlined in a letter to the airline.

BA said it was open to "constructive" talks, but did not believe Balpa was acting in good faith.

Oh well, looks like my journey home will be a long one!

Direct flight of under 9 hours turned into a 4 hour flight, 5 hour wait, 8 hour flight, 2 hour wait, 2 hour flight! Not impressed with either side in this.

Had an email a few hours ago telling me my BA flight from JFK to Heathrow on 30th Sept has been cancelled. After about 10 attempts I finally managed to switch to an acceptable alternative. Took almost 2 hours a I kept getting error messages (they seem to have a few ICT issues). I was not tempted to phone them after reading of people's problems contacting them a couple of weeks ago.
  • Well, we've just had emails to say our BA flight home from Los Angeles is cancelled (this Friday afternoon). So they've rebooked us from LA that evening to Heathrow then on to Edinburgh, which is not our original airport. I've just had to accept that, as presumably it's the 'best' option.

Is there any way we're likely to be able to claim for onward travel (Edinburgh to Glasgow), and for a late checkout in our hotel (as we've now got quite a late flight).

You might have luck on the EDI-GLA transportation claim.

I would say no chance on a late checkout cost being covered by BA in LA.
  • Thanks Westin.

Do you think we'll be able to claim the EU Regulation 261/2004 compensation? We'll be around 5 hours late arriving into EDI airport.
