According to Head For Points some passengers were told earlier this week by British Airways that they wouldn't be receiving Avios & Tier Points due to them if they'd been moved to another carrier (If you were moved to a oneworld airline then you should receive Avios & Tier Points from them).

British Airways appear to have clarified the position now:

If you were moved to another carrier, British Airways has confirmed to me that you WILL receive the Avios and tier points you were due. If you were moved to a oneworld airline then you will have received Avios and tier points from them and BA probably does not owe you anything, unless you feel you got less than you would otherwise. If you got moved to a non-oneworld airline then obviously BA owes you the full Avios and tier points you would otherwise have received.

If you chose to take a refund from British Airways, you will not receive anything. This is irrespective of whether you rebooked for cash yourself or chose not to travel at all
(See later comment on this in the full article).

    Thanks Westin.

Do you think we'll be able to claim the EU Regulation 261/2004 compensation? We'll be around 5 hours late arriving into EDI airport.

It depends when they told you of the cancellation. With the last round of strike, BA cancelled and notified passengers outside of the 14 day window to avoid financial compensation payments having to be made under eu261.

They notified us Wednesday morning US time, which was 2 days and maybe 6 hours prior to our flight home.

We will arrive home around 5 hours late, and also to a different arrival airport, which is not convenient either.

Might be worth trying a claim under EU261 then. No harm. Details and application on BA.com
The only other thing that they may dispute is that your rerouting to GLA instead of EDI was a ‘voluntary rerouting’.
    Good luck.

I hope they don't claim in was voluntary, as I didn't have any choice. My choices online were to accept the change or cancel my flight. I wouldn't say that was an option, would you?

I've actually had even more bad luck with it, as we've now got a nearly 3 hour delay, although they've emailed to give a new check-in time, which saves us from going to the airport so early. Thing is, I've now noticed there are indeed options to connect to Glasgow, only they are more expensive than the Edinburgh flights. Funny that. I should perhaps screenshot from skyscanner as proof of available flights. I've no idea now why they have chosen Edinburgh (although I understand there was a change triggered by the cancelled LAX-LHR segment).

British Airways have now clarified the position and state as follows:

If your flight was cancelled as a result of the industrial action, and you were rebooked onto an alternative service operated by British Airways or a oneworld partner airline, you will automatically be credited with the applicable Avios and Tier Points once you have flown the rebooked flight.

If your flight was cancelled as a result of the industrial action, and you were rebooked by British Airways onto an alternative service operated by a non-partner airline, we will award you the Avios and Tier Points for your original cancelled British Airways flight. Please raise a claim online by logging into your Executive Club account and click the option “claim missing Avios on BA” and submit your original British Airways flight details.

In all other cases where you believe you would have upgraded or retained your Tier status had your flight not been affected by the industrial action, please contact your local Executive Club Service Centre who will review cases on an individual basis.

We were due to be on a flight from LAX to LHR on Friday, which was cancelled 2 days in advance and we were re-routed to a different arrival airport. The connection to Edinburgh was subsequently cancelled, and the new LAX to LHR leg was then delayed. They did give us some warning of that though, so we were able to go to the airport later.

BA didn't change my hire car booking till later in the day - I had to go take care of that myself. Another annoyance. Once we were at LAX, the ticketing agent managed to get us on a flight to Glasgow, which I told her I could see availability for online, and despite this we had been rerouted to Edinburgh. Wonder if high fares were anything to do with that (Glasgow was 400+, Edinburgh was half that price on the BA site).

So we eventually made it home many hours late and with some expenses, but have submitted a claim to see what happens. Not sure how long it will take, as I've already had an automated response to say they are really busy just now (imagine that).

Our cancelled flight was supposedly due to shortage of planes due to the Trent issue, although our flight wasn't one (but they move same size planes to accommodate apparently.
