Sky News are reporting that Green is in talks with insolvency advisers and is facing administration :#

    Link for anybody interested.

I left at the end of August but have circa £900 of credit with them so looks like it might take a while for me to get that back. I imagine a lot of people like me that took advantage of the 10% bonus are leaving taking with them large credit balances which has put them under a lot of pressure. I would have been happy to leave that money with them until exhausted if they hadn't raised my tariff by 50%.

Thanks - for some reason I couldn't post the link.

I'm wondering if I should transfer away today .. it would mean i'd have to pay £72 exit fees though.

Probably best to wait for them to go bust, then no exit fees, etc. Also, have to go somewhere so maybe best to go to SOLR!

Oh well now the wait to see who solr will be.
  • (electricity only) I started the switch to Neon Reef (not that I think they're going to be around for too much longer now anyway!) 7th Sept, due to supply a ready tomorrow & NR take over 28th.  I'll be over £300 in credit with Green, that will eventually be received from whoever is appointed SOLR?

    Thanks

As the sites say, don't switch until new supplier SORL contacts you to confirm the account is in place; also your credit will (eventually) be credited to your new supplier account.

Green have gone bust and emailed customers now, blaming all sorts of things including Brexit (!) which this is NOT related to, and lots of other factors (but not themselves, eg trading at a big loss), and then wanting a bail-out. Government is right, compensate the large companies who will be given millions of new accounts like us, which would otherwise be unprofitable for them to; that is reasonable in the circumstances. Means we all get shafted with high bills now though...
  • My switch from Green is in process to Ovo, due 27th Sept, hopefully it is all going to switch, but this is possibly another complication. Thankfully I have no credit as such on my account or what there is, will be less than my final bill, having withdrawn it all 2 months ago after topping up to receive the 10% free credit from Green. That gamble paid off, making about £150,goes towards the increased costs now!

With Green for electricity only, will probably go for "e-on next" bigger company with a good reputation almost double what I'm paying now. Just watch out if they try and switch us to Scottish Power!
  • Do the normal rules about how long it takes to produce a final bill / time taken to refund credit and associated compensation apply when a SoLR takes over?

I was also wondering at what point the SoLR's tariff kicks in? Is it the day they are appointed, or the day you are official registered as a customer with them?

Good question about the tariff start date @thelight. I am currently reading my meters daily and keeping records daily in my usage calculator android app. I have only just had smart meters installed by green (3 weeks ago) so I can see my bill being very messy with lots of confusion. My electric smart meter last got read Tuesday by green (day before administration) . However my gas smart meter has never displayed it's readings in the app so last reading they have is my old manual meter on 3rd september

So I'm keeping close tabs on my readings . Oddly today i got a message from Green asking for meter readings.Ive Ignored the request as I guess it was just automated
