  • Just a quick one from me today, lots of extra online work to be had and I want to make the most of it :)

Had an eBay sale last night of my old car stereo, set aside the money for postage and then paid the remaining £20 off of CC2, not a lot but £20 less to find come payday(s) to get it all gone.

I have been doing a research thing today and yesterday also that should bag me a £30 voucher, if that comes in time for Christmas I shall be very pleased!

I truly cannot wait to sit down on New Year's Day and start a fresh new financial year :D I think I might have no car insurance to pay in March and April as my adjusted premiums (from changing the car) showed three more payments, that's a bonus if so!

Right - time to crack on xx
  • Happy Thursday!

This week genuinely feels like the longest week ever! Slept a bit better last night though, we finally caved and took apart the bed and just have the mattress on the floor. Looks a bit trampy but much more comfortable. For me, it's a bit like setting an alarm on something new for the first time, I don't trust that it will go off, so I don't sleep well. Except with the bed I didn't trust that it wouldn't randomly give way :rotfl:

One more day at work, then it's finally going to be the weekend! I plan to make my weekend this week much more productive than last week. I have ordered a cable for my car as the one to open the passenger door has snapped, so going to try and fix that, I do like tinkering with things and seeing how they work. I also want to go through the freezer and cleaning cupboard and sift through what we need and what we don't, to free up some room. I have worked out I can freeze my breakfast smoothies, which would save time AND washing up everyday. Just need to find some cheap enough bottles or containers, I would need 3 as I already have two bottles that I use. I have a voucher for Matalan, so I might see what they have.

I can't believe there is just over one month left of 2019, time seems to fly by scarily fast these days, it freaks me out a little, sometimes!

I plan to pay another £5 onto CC2 today, just need to transfer it from PayPal to my bank and then phone up to make the payment. Every little bit helps, eh? xx

The bed base randomly giving way would definitely not be good! I used to have a mattress on the floor back when I had just moved in to a place and couldn't afford a bed base for a while. It's all good! Being comfortable and getting a good night's sleep is the main thing :)

It sure has! This whole year has felt more like six months. :(
  • Agreed cathybird, it's not uncomfortable at all! Just looking forward to the new one arriving in a little over 2 weeks :rotfl: mainly because it's an ottoman bed, so looking forward to all the storage! I'm thinking summer clothes under the bed and alternate between seasons... who knows!

I did end up spending today, I found some bottles that are perfect for my smoothies to go into for the freezer, so picked those up as they were the last few on the shelf and cheap :)

I want to get the house a bit more ship-shape now that I've had a bit more sleep, so my POA for when I get home is:
    - to move the old bedframe pieces from our room to the huge shed in the garden until we can break them down small enough for the tip
    - do a wash and put it on the radiators to dry
    - mop the floors whilst there is no one home to tread on them
    - cook off the chicken that OH's boy last night moved from the freezer to the fridge for some unknown reason... :rotfl:
    - tidy away the paperwork that has accumulated in the house (easier to do now that we organized file boxes for things, I don't have to let OH's grow into a huge pile)

I have been tinkering with a hopeful budget for part way through next year, although I have included still my monthly car finance payment just to err on the side of caution with figures, however it all looks VERY good and I'll be able to build up some hefty (a.k.a worst case scenario) pots, such as:

    - Dental. Last time I saw the dentist I was supposed to see the hygienist, and I know when I book to see her she will ask to see me again in 3 months, so my dental pot will be built up monthly to account for 1 checkup, 4 hygienist visits, and a contingency amount for the highest band of treatment should anything disastrous happen.

    - Car maintenance : 1 MOT, 1 Full service, and enough contingency money to cover 4 new tyres and some small repairs.

    - Annual car costs: a year's insurance, and a year's worth of road tax (Breakdown cover is included with my bank)

I will also be able to comfortably afford to put £200 into my LISA every month, £100 aside for gifts, £100 aside for any future holidays, £40 for hair highlights, and £100 for my Emergency Fund.

As you can see, these pots will all end up being quite hefty, and I don't foresee having to use all of every pot, but I guess that's the point, you never know when things will happen. Plus, should I happen to go into the next year with money still in the pots, they will require less to top them up that year.

This still leaves me with disposable income after everything, which shocks me, but it is nice to know that I will be in a position where I can save all of this, and be prepared for most things, and never have to rely on credit again.

One thing I am taking on/swapping, is swapping our current multiple subscriptions for TV services for a Sky TV package, as we can afford it now we're not both under mountains of debt, but also thanks to their black Friday sale, it actually works out cheaper than the various bits we subscribe too, and it'll just be the one monthly payment. I've also missed normal tv channels!!!

PS the holiday is only so high as I only really go away to visit my mum in Australia - not cheap :rotfl:
  • Well, I moved all of the old bed from our room, down the stairs, and out to the huge shed, and then decided that was enough work for one day. The headboard in particular was heavier than I expected, so after 6 or 7 trips up and down the stairs and to the garden, I decided to have an early night :rotfl:

The chicken didn't need cooking as it still hadn't defrosted properly, but should be good for something for dinner tonight.

I did indeed get paid today instead of tomorrow, I have worked out what is due to go out before I get my second lot of pay, and have paid £205 off of CC2. The pay in two weeks should get CC1 to between £300-£400, and this should be cleared when I receive my full time wages pay at the end of December, if I'm a bit clever about how much I set aside for groceries and fuel for the first part of the month. Exciting stuff :D

Debt is now around £1.6k, and will go down to under[STRIKE] £1,000[/STRIKE] £500 in a little over two weeks, that's insane to me, I can't actually picture it lol

Right, off to update my sig and plough through some more work! X
  • Well, today has been productive so far, mainly as i went in for my contraceptive injection (12 weekly) and came out with the implant instead. I got recommended to come off it as I have been on it for years, and said to the nurse that I was looking to change over after this injection as I didn't manage to get a consultation in time, and she initially offered to do the consultation, and then just did the procedure anyway, so that got sorted much sooner than expected :rotfl:

I did an online research thing on Tuesday & Wednesday, for a £30 voucher and that's just been paid which is a lot quicker than I expected - I redeemed it for an Argos voucher as I can always find something I want in there! Maybe it is time to peruse the offers today as it's not technically my money....

Looking forward to finishing today, OH is at home with an extremely sore mouth/tooth, so it will just be a quiet night in but I'm not complaining about that :)

Nothing beats a quiet night in in my book :)

Agreed, it's occasionally nice to go out for food but - especially on a Friday when I've still been at work - I am usually far too tired :rotfl:

OH is reprimanding me for wanting to get something functional for the house with my voucher, so I may look into a new pair of straighteners, mine are ancient!

I am actually looking forward to sorting out my car door handle tomorrow, I probably could have gotten it sorted under warranty but for a £6 part and 30 minutes of my time, it's MUCH less hassle and the car never has to leave my drive :D

I have earned myself over £7 on PA today, so as soon as that clears it is going to CC2, which also still has a £30 ish payment to go out next week. The more I can pay down, the less I need to try and take from my FT December pay to be debt-free (not that it won't be worth it).

If I'd been able to do any work last weekend, there would be no scraping around from my FT wages, but unfortunately life happens, it's still very much do-able by the end of the year :D plus - I'll have the SE wages mid-January, so no worries really at all :)

Me too! Especially when it's so dark and cold. All I want to do is huddle next to the fire!

Sounds great, SSDD23 - you have clearly got the whole thing under control :) :A
  • Happy Monday guys!

Super sleepy today as I awoke at around 3am to find OH up and watching the NFL and also tapping away on his laptop, so couldn't get back to sleep until he fell back asleep! Freezing cold this morning, too, but both are things a nice, hot cup of coffee can help with ;)

Here were are in the lead-up to a brand new year, has anyone got any New Year's Resolutions? I had about 10 last year, several of which were discarded because they relied on my foot having healed up, hopefully I'll get round to some of them this year, instead.

I did as planned and made and froze my week's worth of smoothies, but forgot to take today's out of the freezer until late last night, so still waiting for it to defrost :rotfl:

Right, time to make coffee and crack on with some work x
