It may not possibly feel like it at the moment but leaving the weekend job is the right thing to do if it is impacting and not giving you enough free time to do other things in life. Whilst it has obviously helped with the debt payment, it is not worth affecting your long term health to shave off a few months debt payments, you are as important as paying off the debts
Self confidence is something i have struggled with for a while too it sucks doesn't it! You should take a lot from how you have handled your journey.
Ha good news on the hair front :rotfl::rotfl:
stay positive...has hard as that can be at times.
I do feel now that it is definitely the right choice - I will have much more free time to myself again, and we have some of OH's family coming to visit in a couple of weeks for the weekend, so whereas I would not be able to see them properly before, now I can
Back to normal work today and I actually kind of missed the routine! I also managed to get straight up without snoozing my alarm this morning, which made it all go much more smoothly than my regular Monday morning :rotfl:
Yes - self-confidence can be a huge struggle, but I do believe we all have it inside us somewhere!0 -
Happy Tuesday!
OH and I went for a nice hour-long walk last night, nosing at houses on the estates around us and talking about the future, house-buying, etc. It was quite nice, and good to do something other than watch TV. Neither of us fancied something as full-on as the gym or swimming, so the long walk was a nice compromise.
I get paid from the weekend job on Friday, I may well get another small bit next month, as my last day is the day after we get paid, I'm not too sure yet. Then I get paid again on Monday from the full time job.
I won't be able to fully assess my budget for next month until I know what i'm getting from the weekend job and the online work, but I should easily have enough to clear two debts, have some spending money for holiday, and pay a chunk off of a third debt. My only planned spend is a gift for my Nan's milestone birthday next month, and we will be going for a meal for that, so my share of that, too.
I need to email today about delaying the final payment for DT6, just so my budget works better. It should be fine with them, it's still getting cleared after all.
Meeting my nan for lunch today as she is off on holiday tomorrow, so need to pass along my stepdad's present as she is meeting them on holiday. Then tonight I'll be logging some more work online, and doing a hair mask and face mask and chilling out. My plan is for us to take the kids swimming tomorrow, so will get some exercise in then.
I must also remember to drive home a different way tonight - we have a fair on which shouldn't impact the road I usually take home, but somehow increased the five minute part of my journey to the motorway, to about 30 minutes. Not doing that again today :rotfl:0 -
Halfway through the week, and I get my pay from the weekend job the day after tomorrow, then I will have a better feel for how my budget for next month is going to look.
I think I have decided to curb the EF saving until the start of the new year, and just keep paying into my HTB and Car pot for now. This is because I don't really have much I would need an EF for at the moment - if anything happens car wise, I generally have the free cash and could dip into the car maintenance fund if needed, but it'll only be a 3 month stop for the EF contributions. This then frees up £50 a month for the next few months to make sure the debt is definitely gone by Christmas, then I can work on building an EF, and saving for my new car.
I am sitting at the moment working out planned spends for next month, so that I can set aside that money from the start, and just spend from that. So far I have:
- the milestone birthday gift from my nan. I am hoping to group together with my brothers to get something special, but also save on individual cost, and get something small and token from me. There will also be my contribution to the meal.
- Christmas cards and wrapping paper. I normally run around in December and end up with naff stuff that is left over. Most places at the moment also seem to have 3 for 2 on Christmas bits, so will take advantage of that.
- A pair of glasses. I have a free eye test at boots next week so will have an up to date prescription, and I have had my eye on a pair on Costco for £80, I just need to check how much extra would be added on, if anything, when I go to buy them. I also need to go and try them on again with my hair down, as silly as that sounds.
That's all so far, so I need to work out a rough cost for that, and then pay that amount into my Monzo account, and only carry that card round.
I'm working towards the payout thresholds on two ongoing survey sites, hopefully I can do that before Christmas and put the money towards Christmas. I also have my ceramic pot (can't remember the proper name) that should have £50-£100 in before Christmas to add to the presents pot.
I phoned the physio today as she said if I hadn't heard from her within a couple of weeks, to leave a message for her as a reminder. I have done that, and the receptionist has scheduled her to call me on Friday morning. The tape is still somewhat helping, but not as much as it was. Honestly, it's like my foot pain learns and adapts!
I'm happy that in next month's budget I will have some wiggle room for some spending money for holiday, the complete opposite of our week away last year, I was completely skint and dependent on OH. I plan to try scuba diving as there appears to be that kind of business right near our hotel, so want to try that if it's not too expensive. There will also be a water-park not too far away, and it'll be nice to be able to treat myself to something at the airport! That last bit isn't a given, I won't spend just because I can, but it's nice to know that if I wanted to, I could.
Not much online work available this week, so glad I am getting some pay from the weekend job, but my budget still works as it stands, I had put in a "minimum" estimated figure from the online work. Still plenty of funds to debt bust and the planned spends & savings0 -
Not much to report today, payday in T minus 7 hours :rotfl:
I have worked out rough totals of what I need to set aside next month:
- £100 for glasses
- £50 for H & B (shouldn't be anywhere need this much, but need to stock up on some bits)
- £25 for Xmas cards and gift wrap (personal cards, hoping to get some decent ones in 3 for £3 at Asda, haha)(again, shouldn't hit that amount but playing it safe)
- £50 for a) contribution to a good present for my nan with my siblings and b) a small token gift from myself
- £30 for my part of any celebration meal, shouldn't be more than that, and probably less depending on where we go, and the fact I'll be driving
So, that money will be transferred to my Monzo account, for planned spends. I am also giving myself a set amount of spending money for holiday, and should be fine to clear THREE debts in a couple of weeks - happy days :T
Off to a friends house for dinner after work, then hoping to be able to log an hour or so of online work when I get home.
Tomorrow night we are going to see Ad Astra, cheap date night as we have our cinema cards0 -
Happy Friday!
Pay from the weekend job indicates I will be getting a little bit of money next month also, which is finebudget still works perfectly!
Spends planned for today:
- car oil (keeps losing oil, but probably going to be cheaper to keep topping it up until I get a new car than to try and hunt down the source, last mechanic couldn't)
- postage for sending back a top for my cousin that needs replacing
I was in shock today, I was hunting for Christmas cards before Asda actually had them out :rotfl:
Just had a call from the physio, and have been booked in for a longer than average appointment in a little over two weeks, so hopefully this is a sign it is being taken seriously and we are going to formulate a final treatment plan!
Not much else to report, last day at the weekend job tomorrow which will be a bit sad, but equally I am looking forward to having an ENTIRE day to myself on Sunday, OH is at work so I have the house to myself!
I did manage to log just under an extra hour of online work last night, and hoping to get a few hours in on Sunday to top it off before I submit it all on Mondaypayday from the FT job is also on Monday, so will be able to make the usual monthly debt repayments and bring the total down a bit.
Other than that, looking forward to the cinema this evening, and having a relaxing evening at home afterwards0 -
I am glad that you have been able to give up one of your part time jobs. 7 day working isn't healthy for anyone. Your holiday plans sound fab tooAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thank you
I have had a rather pleasant day off today, didn't get out of bed until I had to, ran a few small errands at my leisure, and just relaxed0 -
I know we are not quite in October yet, but as it is the start of a new week tomorrow, no harm getting my goals for the next month out there a day or two early:
Goal List:
- Do a quick yoga workout 1-2 times a week
- Gym or swim 2-3 times a week before holiday
- Zero alcohol before holiday
- Do 15 minutes cleaning per day, to help keep on top of things
- Go to bed prepared for the next day - uniform ready, lunch prepped, etc.
- Log all spends on new spending tracker app
- Do one thing productive each day
- List three things I am grateful for each day
- Do one thing that scares me every week
I am trying to have a month of less running around and being disorganised, and more calm and control. Three weeks today until we fly away on holiday for one week, I cannot wait!
Today has very much been a lazy day, I did go and drop my uniform back at work, and swung by B and Q on the way home to pick up an extra hanging basket (bought one, came home, realised we had two hooks :rotfl: ) which was a big deal for me as I only tend to drive to places that I know, and got some more grass seed as the stuff that we have put down has flourished, so we had planned to buy some more for the remaining patches, and it was at a good price in B & Q
A few more hours of chill time this morning, then back to the grind tomorrow0 -
How much better was it that you could make use of your weekend haha
. Love the goals for October, there is certainly a few I would benefit from as well. when I am on days I tend to get up and spend 1st part of morning rushing to get stuff ready, it would be so much better if I didn't do this every morning.
Also think its good to reflect in life sometimes, we get so caught up in every day life we don't always think of the good things we have
It seems like you are making good progress with all things MSE.0 -
Pleased you enjoyed your day off & the goals list for October sounds fab, good luck0
