What small DFW things will you do w/c 06/05

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    I'm back!
Read up on last week's thread last night.
Want to say a big welcome to the newbies, it is a great thread that keeps me on the straight and narrow even though I can't post regularly at the minute.

Ziggy thank you for ur kind words in a post a couple of weeks back. It is much appreciated. It is going to be the start of a roller coaster ride- just out of hospital after a week of tests. I'm covered in bruises but it looks like the hospital will move quickly. Will need several operations as there is no guarantee each will work so i've got to be in for the long haul, but deep down I knew that and I need the surgery badly. Found last week alone tough going but got thru it, and a positive there will be a few NSD coming my way!

CCL sorry uve had a tough time with ur ex, u are doing such a great job with ur kids.
CLF hope u r feeling better and the eye is doing better

Just before I went into hospital I popped a SC chilli in for DD. We worked out yesterday that we must of have got about 10 portions from it altogether. DD portioned up some for the freezer, added rice for ready made easy meals and some portions are a double portion if both of us want chilli. It was made with YS mince aswell so really happy.

Made use of Amazon for cat sachets. Worked out they are much cheaper and of course delivered but we found that Tesc@ is still the cheapest for their tins.

Took spends book into hospital. After scrapping March I got back on track in April and was doing my month end breakdowns in hospital.
Need to pop out today to pick something up I ordered in the sale at Asd@. Also need dishwasher tablets which are good and cheap there.
Some paperwork does need finishing off today, just some loose ends so will do today later when I'm resting up
DD fair play put all my mail in piles ready for me to log in for the RM surveys. Managed to catch up on this. We have decided to try and save the RM vouchers I get for Boots boxing day sales which DD loves.
Have been managing to get washing out on the line but have been having to still have the heating on first thing (which frustrates me greatly!) as it has been so cold.
Steam cleaner is earning it's being used well. I've wanted one for so long and bought one just before going in, it makes life so much easier
New broadband goes live on Wednesday-this will save me £7 a month, just need to sort out mobile now.

That's about it from me, have a great bank holiday everyone x

    Morning all :)
Thanks for starting us off Ziggy :)
HK, pleased to 'see' you back, hope your hospital stuff is all sorted soon, and things are much better when you come out the other side.
Early start this morning as we went to a couple of boot sales, but a fairly relaxing day planned from now on! Started off by catching up on yesterday's antics from 'last week's' thread :) We spent yesterday at DD1's and didn't get back till late, so I didn't get to post.

    Anyway, today, I need to:
    Do some business paperwork Done
Update spending diary after not very spendy weekend (just as well after paying dentist and car MOT and service ) Done
Write revised date for plumber to do a small (I hope ) boiler repair after he had to cancel last week Done
All food from home - OH wants sweet and sour for dinner, and I reckon I have everything needed for that :)Done, added veg to the chicken breast meat I had, and made enough for another meal as well :)
Sow some salad and dill seeds - got the dill seeds from the boot sale for 50p instead of full price from the supermarket or garden centre, and they have a long date. Salad seeds I already have :)Not done :(
Some washing - we had a fire outside at DD's yesterday, and all our clothes smell of smoke. I also managed to get mayonnaise down the front of my coat :(Washed my coat, other stuff will be on tomorrow's list!
Take a carrier bag and my rubber garden gloves and pick up any litter from the front outside our terrace. We live on a through road, and passing idiots tend to chuck their rubbish about after the pubs in town chuck out at weekends  If I (and other neighbours) clean it up, it tends to stay clear till the following weekend. If it is left there, passing kids etc tend to add to it - but on the other hand tend not to throw it down if there is no other litter there already. Interesting observation for psychology nerds such as myself :rotfl: Not done as yet, tomorrow I expect!
Better finish this coffee and make a start, I suppose!
Ran out of steam a bit after a very busy weekend. Had to do some watering in the garden, despite it being cold, it has really dried out, due to the pesky wind!
Early night coming up I think, as I have loads to do tomorrow!

    Afternoon Campers,
It is sooooo chilly here! I've got three layers on & I'm still cold. Fire not lit despite cat's best efforts to convince us he has frost-bite & trench-paw.
Today's efforts on the frugal front:
*Set an amount Mr F cannot exceed when he gets his new mobile & contract.
    *Low spend local outing.
    *Make a rice pudding.
*Leftovers from yesterday's whole Indian spiced chicken tonight with home made jacket wedges.
*Load washer & set timer for overnight for Economy 7 wash.
    *Water greenhouse veggies.
    *Finish knitting sleeve.
    *Make packed lunch.
*Synchronise diaries to get organised for the week ahead.
    *Write tomorrow's job list.
*Sorted through voucher/coupon stash & got rid of out of date ones.
*Received a £5 loyalty voucher from Body Shop.
*Used up very last possible application of lipstick using brush.
OK, I need to spend the next couple of hours doing a few things, then it's relaxation time for the rest of the day.

  • Hi everyone, just caught up on today's news so far.... Sorry I was MIA last week, I couldn't find the thread but I was very stressed with FT job so probably not looking hard enough or in the right places or whatever :(
Anyway i'm still doing my best with the small steps - have actually managed 3 x NSDs this month :) I am overdrawn though so extra reason to be careful. I have some self employment as well as a FT job (& a PT job!) and after finally getting their act together and paying me on time for the past 6 months, this month's payment is now 2 weeks overdue! It will arrive this week but it doesn't half mess up my budget and finances when it's late :( They are actually paying 2 invoices in one go so one is late and the other is early …
I have been doing SB and UGov surveys; also sticking with medium sized shopping trips and managing with what's in the kitchen & avoiding lots of 'little' top up shops where you end up spending £10 when you only needed a loaf of bread! I did treat myself to a dress in the sale in Mr A - £10. Also had a trip to visit DD2 at uni last week and topped up her cupboards for £30.
It's been a sunny day here in the NW and DD1 and her BF and I have been to the coast - DD1 drove so I bought us all a hot drink in the caf!. Got to buy petrol but no other spending will be done today.

    Happy Bank Holiday people.
It started off lovely here - got a load of washing on the line, went to the gym, washed my gym stuff and got that on the line and almost dry before the rain came along. Luckily I got it in before it got very wet, and it's all round the radiator now. Ah yes, the radiator - really didn't want to turn the heating back on, and I put it off and put it off. But when it got to the point where I didn't have any feeling in my feet, I decided it had to be done. Blumin' cold here at the moment.
I normally roast a chicken on a Sunday, but yesterday I had visitors and we went out for lunch, so I didn't need another main meal in the evening - so I'm doing it tonight instead. This will of course confuse me for the rest of the week!

Hi everyone  looks like everyone is enjoying the extra day this weekend :D

Dawn when I was reading the thread this last week I really felt you are constantly MOTing & servicing your motors! :rotfl:

HK glad to hear your ops are coming sooner, although wish ypou didn't have to go through all of this. Hopefully your dd will have finished for the year and can help you recouperate

ditty - wow that sounds like a lot! Hope you're having time to relax between all of that

So yesterday I did return to my top (that sent shivers down my spine following the course when I was ill) and decided it wasn't going to beat me! Dug deep in my brain to get something from the course and with the help of a couple of youtube tutorials I have almost finished it :T Just need to hem it and it's done :j Will get oh to pin it when madam goes to bed :money:

Today oh has been painting the cupboards & we made a list of things needed to do the decorating, and a few other odd jobs that need doing. Then we went out to the garage, hunted around and found 5 of the 9 things needed - over the years we seem to have spent far too much on diy things and have loads of certain things and this has been combined with my hoarding (MSE) tendencies :money:

took a cutting of mother's tongue. Have potted it up. Not sure if it'll take but hope so as have wanted one for ages :D

nipped in to coop and got a few ys bits to have with/for tea

took pup for mega walk with new pup friend discovered yesterday :D my neighbour has a pup same breed and age and they do scamp around!

brought chard seedlings in as something has eaten the fresh shoot germinated yesterday!

ok going to go and have a bath so madam can jump in my water before dinner ;) :money: then we are going to watch Up
