Will Brexit happen?

Oh look, more "Brexiters are thick" hyperbole (acts surprised at the very obvious inability of some remainers to debate rather than deride).
Here endeth lesson one in how not to promote greater understanding between opposing factions in a time of great division.
No-one is saying that ALL Brexit supporters are thick so there's no need to start clutching your pearls in fake outrage.
But if that's how you want to debate it, OK, here we go.
Tim Martin spent a lot of his own money trying to influence his customers. Mostly with the simplistic message that their drinks & food would be cheaper if we left the EU.
In any population, there are people who are above average & people who are below average. In this case, I'm talking about intelligence, but it could be wealth, height, weight, whatever you want to measure, it's still true.
Now, which group do you think that an average Wetherspoons customer will belong to & which way did they vote?
Same question for the "Ooh Tommy Tommy" supporters.
Same question for the lower paid workers who are told that foreigners are taking their jobs.
Now, which side of the average do you think that the majority international business leaders who oppose brexit will be.

Or the majority scientists?

Or the Doctors? https://www.bmj.com/company/newsroom/brexit-will-be-very-bad-for-the-nhs-survey-of-uk-doctors-reveals/
Or even the majority of your hated politicians? Do you really think that any single one of them would be in the below average IQ group?0 -

Here's a way into the question for you.
Many people don't want to take the aliens' deal. What arguments would you use to change their minds? How would you show that the sacrifice was worth the money? Would it be wise to mention the money at all?
You’re an idiot.0 -

It's nonsense. The government told them this but they were dismissed as project fear traitors. Leavers were told they'd be heading for the sunlit uplands - it's a message parroted here daily.
Black slaves and space invaders - it's a ridiculous analogy anyway.
I get that you want to hate Leavers but you can't expect anyone else to buy in as you just make 5hit up.0 -
westernpromise wrote: »It's an entirely apposite analogy because it simply takes the same principle to an extreme. How much is a principle worth? How much will you sell out sovereignty for? How much will you sell out 75 million people for? It's only a question of degree.
I get that you want to hate Leavers but you can't expect anyone else to buy in as you just make 5hit up.
You're still labouring under the idea that voting remain was equivalent to selling out ones principles for a cash sum.
Such strong opinions yet couldn't be bothered to vote yourself.0 -
Seems to be some talk that the Northern Ireland only backstop may get looked at again (as opposed to the UK-wide one).
Honestly I'm pretty sure that is where we would already have ended up if May hadn't messed up the General election in 2017 so badly0 -

The only thing she did wrong was calling an election, the remoaners caught asleep at the wheel in 2016 woke up and fought back.
This is why the "you snooze you lose" argument the leavers put forward is kinda stupid.0 -

Given that 75,000,000,000 is more than 10 times the number of people on the planet, then I’d suggest the poster describing your argument as utter drivel was probably correct.0 -
I have given up thinking about Brexit. The EU has said that there won't be an extension so we will leave on 31st October. If there is no deal we can blame all the politicians who voted against what the EU offered. Many of them were not representing their voters and only thinking about what they want and as the UK government is based in London that will be what London wants which is one of the reasons why so many people voted Leave in the first place. I vote we move the UK government to Manchester near the BBC.0

That will not happen.0
