....and if they are petty and self absorbed enough to throw a strop, I personally wouldn't be too bothered about losing them as friends anyway.

Please don't put words into my mouth or claim to know what my exact thoughts were. I certainly do not expect anyone to do anything for me on their special day. Weddings are above all about the people getting married but it's not unreasonable to consider how guests will get to a difficult location. You assumed that I meant laying on buses but other ways to help could be suggesting co-ordinated arrival times at an airport so that guests could then pool together for transport. If your own family has to be bribed to get there then there should be no expectation for your guests to be happy to spend a lot of money to get there. I ultimately decided not to go to my friend's wedding as I'm at the age now where I'm not going to stress myself or go somewhere just to show my face in order to please people.

I would never attend a wedding abroad if I had to pay to get there. It is not unreasonable to turn down the invitation.
