did u not have terrible jet lag ?
None while we were away but a little when I got back but it was worth it.
I remember looking puzzled at a TV in a bar in Hong Kong, wondering why they were showing Premiership football at 11 at night. Then realised it was a 3 p.m. kick off which they're allowed to show abroad.:o0 -
When I speak to people about the Caribean I just doesn't appeal to me, my friends tell me of how they cant leave their hotels as its unsafe, how there isn't many things to do.
I may be wrong ofcourse that's just what my friends tell me
I was going to suggest Mexico (I love it there). The carribean side, not the Pacific.
I wouldn’t stay in Cancun, but I love the riviera Maya.
There is a coast road all the way from Tulum to Cancun & their is a cheap regular bus service, you can get out and about or hire a car.0 -

Now that is somewhere you can’t really go out and about.
Plus I’ve stayed at two of the best all inclusive in Sharm (sensatori & reef oasis blue bay) and got a dodgy tum the like of which I’ve never experienced anywhere else in the world!0 -
Lisbon? Lots of museums and you can easily do lots of walking around Sintra and along the coast. Public transport is great, it''s good value for money and would be about 15 degrees in Feb. Otherwise city breaks in Europe would be a bit chilly, and the other places you've mentioned are all much warmer. I've got a couple of friends who've been to Sri Lanka for a fortnight and packed lots in. I think if I'd been married for 30 years I would deserve a fortnight in the Maldives!!"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0

I'd consider a flight less than 12 hours fine for a 2-week break, especially if it was direct (though I did go to Stockholm on a day trip, so my view on acceptable travel time v time at destination may be a bit odd!).
I did it for a week just before Xmas. I said never again, but I’ve booked a week in the Dom Rep in October - lol0 -

I was thinking that if OP liked museums he'd be happier with the antiquities on the Nile and in Cairo rather than a resort. I think it's just chance with 'Gyppy Tummy' or Delhi Belly. It can happen, often it's dehydration rather than food.0 -
I don't get the bit about two weeks not being long enough to go anywhere.........0

nor me; we have acquaintances who have gone to New York and Las Vegas for long weekends, another who went to the far east for 4 days for a wedding. My wife just went to Australia for 11 days for a GDD's birthday. Make the travel part of the holiday - attitude is everything. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
I'm in a beautiful part of the World at the moment called Kranjska Gora, in Slovenia.
Just less than a 2 hour flight from LGW to Ljubljana, and a 60 minute transfer.
KG is set in picture perfect scenery. A couple of dozen marked walking trails, clean mountain air, litter free, very little traffic, non of the wrong type of tourist, lovely hotels, friendly English speaking locals, and much more.....Perfect.
Bring a brolly though.:)0 -

I wish that were so, but I’ve lost faith in Egyptian hotel standards.
I’m almost tee total so it’s not booze, I’m very fair, so it’s not too much sun & I really like water, so I do drink plenty.
That old Chestnut about the money, ALL money in every country is handled by loads of dirty hands.
I fear it’s all excuses and they need to sort out their food handling hygiene. I think they have the worlds worst rep for tummy bugs - it’s virtually the norm to get a bad dose and if you’re unlucky a drip and medical intervention.0
