    Morning all :)
Lovely sunny morning, so far, anyway!
    Have a great holiday Purps!

    So far I have:
Had HG (therefore free) fruit from freezer with breakfast
    Walked dog
Cleared up kitchen (though have made a mess of it again already )
Rescued broad bean plants (again - they were not as badly damaged as they were yesterday morning, just a bit scratched- I am convinced it is mice to blame. I remember my grandad soaking his pea and bean seeds in paraffin to ward them off. I don't fancy doing that  but am trying Foxgloves anti-cat olbas oil / teabag remedy, in the hope mice don't like it either!)
Tied new shoots of everlasting sweet pea thing to trellis in grotty corner behind the compost bins, which I am trying to improve at no cost. Planted some bulbs from elsewhere there last year, which have come up, though not flowered this year, and some mint, which I have loads of, which has also taken :)

Used up some unloved teabags to do this - there were only a few left in the bottom of the tub. I made tea with them first and used it to soak fruit for a barm brack type thing that I will make later on. Used up leftover dried fruit from Christmas, too :D

    Still to do:
Post a RM surveys parcel and pay a cheque in to the bank
Drop into sales unit shop while I am there, as it is only a short walk away

Ironing (unsurprisingly not done last night :rotfl:)
Water seedlings, and anything else that needs it
    Some housework / cleaning :(

OH is back later, so sausages for dinner. He has a cold, he informs me, so that is something to look forward to
No spending planned for today :D

    Morning Campers,
Am about halfway through today's job list - the money saving bits of it are as follows:
*Clean house using minimal products & washable cloths. Done.
*Water greenhouse seedlings & salad seed troughs. Done.
*Do some financial admin regarding the sale of our family home. Done
*Bake the sourdough loaf I mixed up yesterday. Done.
*Fill in today's calorie tracker page in my food diary - amazing how much longer food supplies last when we are back on point with portion sizes & silly nibbling for the sake of it. Done.
    *Do a few surveys. Done.
    *Tonight's meal is another Use-it-up opportunity :-)
*Perused annual statement from bank where we keep our emergency fund. I may decide to via the interest off to pay for some tickets, I'll see.
    Still to do:
*Write Easter cards - all from bargainaceous local indie card shop or found in my card stash. Free fitness trotting down to post box later. Write to friend, as thi dropped off list the other day - I already have a nice card from my stash & a stamp for that.
*Make a list of everything I need to buy/do on our city centre trip tomorrow morning.
*Put all relevant vouchers in my purse, plus any cash from relevant savings piggies.
*Ensure my phone is charged as I have a 30% off code for a shop I am planning to visit. Hoping the offer will still be on tomorrow.
*Bath & hair wash - still doing 'Use-it-ups' on cleanser (cut open the other day) & an array of shampoos & conditioners brought from Mum's house. For anyone who is fortunate not to have had to do this job yet (clearing out family home after death of both parents), one of things I found hardest was feeling I was putting 2 people's lives in the bin, so we have donated as much as poss to charities & we are using up everything we can, within reason, as the 'bin' thing is not a nice feeling, & I didn't like the waste of plastic either, when the product hadn't even been used, so I shall be using up for a good while yet, I think.
*Sort out grocery order when the delivery van arrives. We don't do online groceries very often at all, but we are busy tomorrow & want to use as much of Sunday as possible to progress a big project in the garden.
*Update my DFW diary - intend to share a weird dream in which my frugality eventually featured, lol.
    Have a good Friday all,
Hope you are feeling ok today, Ziggy, & wishing Purps a good holiday.

    Today so far -

    - Hair appointment at 10. I used to go every 6 weeks, and have it dyed. Now I'm going every 8 weeks and not having it dyed. I actually love my grey! It makes me look like a woman to be reckoned with. Will see how the budgeting goes - if I decide that even this is too expensive, the next step is to let it grow.

    - Shopping at Aldi. 8 weeks of frugal living, and this is the lowest weekly shop so far!! I've got spreadsheets, and a graph and everything, and I'm averaging just over £16 a week. I bought 750g of beef and pork mince for £2.99, which I'll split into 7 portions and freeze. 43p per serving!! Not as cheap as chicken, but a change is as good as a rest, and I can do other things with it - burgers, spag bol, lasagne (still using up that pasta!!), savoury mince. Actually ended up with 8 portions, which is 37p per poriton. Whoop!!

    - This afternoon - I'm going to paint the shed and the garden bench. They both need it, and there's enough paint left from when I did it originally, so no cost involved and hopefully will extend the life of both as well as making the garden look a bit better. Didn't happen - that pesky sunshine fooled me. Turned out to be far too cold and windy for painting outside.
    - Depending on the weather I might stay out and do some gardening (but not grass-cutting, I don't want grass sticking to the wet paint!!). See above.

    - Friday night is pizza night. I buy an Aldi pizza, eat half and freeze half. I have it with salad and pretend it's reasonably healthy (actually, I think it is reasonably healthy!!). And I'll have a glass of something alcoholic from the stores. Gin and tonic tonight I think. Finished the tonic, so now I either have to drink other varieties of alcohol from the stores, or go and buy some more tonic.

    - someone gave me a boatload of rhubarb yesterday, so I'm going to spend the evening making stewed rhubarb. I'll put it into individual pots and freeze. Lots of ideas - eat cold with natural yogurt swirled through it, add a crumble topping and eat hot, mix with cream cheese (seriously, don't knock it till you've tried it - stewed apple and cream cheese is good too!!), make a sauce for lamb (just need someone to give me some free lamb...). Love free food!! Stewed the rhubarb instead of working outside - that's 5 puddings for next to nothing, sorted.

I love a big spoonful on my breakfast porridge, with Greek yogurt on top!

  • Hope you're feeling better soon Ziggy - lots of love
I've had a couple of days offline - I like to do that when I'm really busy because it's one way of properly relaxing when I don't use the computer. If I'm short of time and I don't have to work I tend to leave the laptop well alone, which is what I've been doing.
Getting lots of real life stuff done - not great in terms of finances but good in getting frogs dealt with (hairdressers, solicitors etc) and have been really enjoying time with friends and family. :D

    Today's plans are
    - have a late breakfast (it is Sunday, after all). Scrambled eggs (2) on toast today. Done.
    - wash the car. I always used to go to the car wash, but it's a bit of a drive and £5 when you get there - and takes quite a chunk out of the day if they're busy - so today it will be a bucket and a sponge. Done - also went to Halfords and bought some of their own brand car shampoo, some microfibre cloths and some stuff for making the black bits blacker. Didn't realise until I looked that OH had taken all the car cleaning stuff with him when he moved out (fair play - I've never shown the remotest interest in cleaning the car, and if I did notice that it needed cleaning I would go to the car wash)
    - I'm going OUT. Our local museum has recently had a facelift, and lots of people are talking about how fab it is. I haven't been for years, so that's the plan for today. I volunteer at a local historic house, so I really ought to be up-to-speed with what's happening at the local museum!! And it's free entry. Done. Quite interesting, but I think all the facelifty bits must be in the grounds (far too cold to go exploring today), as the inside looked the same as the last time I went, ages ago.
    - preparations for next week. Theoretically I only volunteer one day a week - but this is the week before Easter, so it's all hands to the pumps, and a fair amount of prep to do ahead of time. Done.

    - once all of that's sorted, I'll be snuggling up with my Kindle - I've just accepted their offer of three months for free. And I've put the cancellation date in my diary, with the link needed for cancelling. I'm trying to cut back on how much time I spend with the TV on (it's tempting to have it on 'for company'). Once the news has done a full cycle and we're back to where we started, I switch off. If I'm watching a programme, I try to properly watch it - I don't check my emails, go on facebook etc etc. If I find that I'm using the laptop rather than watching then I switch off. I don't leave it on while I'm in the kitchen cooking. And if I find myself scrolling endlessly through the listings to find something worth watching, then I switch off and do something else instead - and now I have my free Kindle books. It's quite liberating! And that's what I'm going to do as soon as I finish editing this!! Keep warm people. xx
